More about the hotel
Great modern hotel
We recently visited Pitt university. The hotel is right on campus well located. Close to dorms and close to shops and restaurants. Check in is seamless. On the 10 th floor. Parking is $35 in garage. We parked on the street outside. Metered parking but free from 6pm to 8am. The room is very nice. Modern clean. Comfortable bed. My only gripe is I hated the pillows. Too thick and not my favorite kind. The tv can be worked through your phone! Pretty cool. The bathroom is modern with huge rain shower stall. Very cool. We ate in the room. Got take out. There is limited dining in restaurant. There is a gym we didn’t use it. Stay was corona safe imo.
Lovely hotel, disappointing stay
The hotel is clean, new, and stylish. The gentleman working the front desk either hates his job or is simply not trained in the hospitality industry. Upon arrival he asked “checking in?” And “last name?” Not a welcome or how may I assist you. No eye contact, no smile, and simple one word answers. He didn’t not provide any information about the hotel and sent us on our way. After a long drive I did not enjoy his snooty attitude. Upon arrival in the room we couldn’t figure out where the ice machine was located. So we called the front desk for clarification. (FYI ice machine are on even floors only). The rooms are spacious, clean, and decorated quite tastefully. I give the mattress a A+. Only complaints with regard to the room was that the air conditioning blew directly on us all night and that the pillows were terribly thick and we all tossed and turned throughout the night and woke up with sore necks. My husband is a titanium elite rewards member, so we have ample Marriott stays to compare to this one. Perhaps with more training at the front desk this hotel will meet the expectations of their guests.
great weekend visiting daughter at Pitt!
we visited our daughter at Pitt this weekend and surprised our freshman by bringing her sister and our dog Bailey. (5 year old maltipoo). Our experience with the hotel was excellent. we received a nice welcome letter before we even arrived with all the details we needed, check in was easy and quick and staff were all wonderful!! it looks and feels brand new. you would never know they accept pets. everything was clean and new and nothing smelled of "dogs" i am allergic to pets which is why i have hypo allergenic dog. i had no allergy reactions from prior pets. Room was very nice and spacious and had everything we needed. they even use our favorite scent amenities!!! Santal 33!! I feel horrible i can't remember the bellhop's name but he was there all weekend. He never stopped moving and couldn't have been more pleasant. the entire hotel was sold out this weekend but every time he saw us he took the time to ask us questions and see if we needed anything. and remembered both daughters and our dog's name. i don't know how he did that! I run a business where customer service is a priority and wish i had him on my team! location was perfect. you will not be disappointed!
The WORST Marriott Restaurant Ever - Spirit & Tales and Bad Food
The hotel's restaurant, Spirit & Tales, has a terrible menu. They take classic food & drink options that have been popular for decades & ruin them. The Manhattan was NOT a Manhattan, the Spinach Caesar salad had nothing to do with a Caesar salad. The steak was the worst cut of meat I've had in a restaurant ever & was so poorly cooked & covered in Chimicurri sauce (probably to compensate for the poor quality) it was inedible. I went out for ice cream to get the taste out of my mouth (Dave & Andy's - excellent). To top it off, the young couple at the table next to me at the Marriott thought it was no issue to make Facetime phone calls to their friends/mother and loudly share information that the entire restaurant could hear. None of the staff asked them to hold it down. I suppose that it might not be the staff's role to explain manners to people, but was all a poor experience. In the minibar, instead of standard "brand" liquors, they had "Wigle Rye Whiskey", "Maggie's Farm Airline Overproof Rum" & "Boyd & Bear Potato Vodka". The beer options were even weirder. Too cute by half. The food is mis-represented and to top it off, the liquor doesn't taste good & is off-brand? Ridiculous. Not sure the demographic they're trying to attract here - but we've stayed here twice now & won't stay here again. Nor will we recommend it to anyone ever. We are Marriott Gold members & stay in Marriotts quite often. I looked forward to this stay for a week - completely disappointed in Marriott.
Safe, well appointed and wonderful for family and business
The location is perfect - easy walking to CMU and Pitt and all the restaurants in Oakland. We had to stay for a week while doing move in and in the midst of COVID. The hotel is very clean and very safe. I had to work in the room several of the days and it was quiet and well arranged that we could move around AND do work in the room while minimizing our time out of the room. Definitely will stay again
