Amazing property, excellent food & high service standards

EKHO Lake House easily goes down as one of the most amazing properties I’ve visited in Sri Lanka. Never knew Polonnaruwa had so much to offer in terms of accommodation as a luxury boutique property. EKHO Lake House nailed every aspect. The food was on point and not a single dish missed the mark in terms of flavor and presentation. Special mention must be made of the calamari and mutton rice and the Sri Lankan breakfast. We had one of the most relaxing stays ever as the property itself borders the Parakrama Samudraya. The evening boat ride at sunset organized by EKHO Lake House was one of the best experiences we’ve had during our travels around Sri Lanka. The staff service standards were very high and every request was catered to. The manager Udesh and his staff were excellent, extremely well mannered and went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.

We had the opportunity to spend a couple of nights at the beautiful hotel. Vasantha, the Guest Relations Manager and team went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Lake view location

The location has a very nice outlook over the lake but the hotel is a little out of town. The staff are lovely and helpful but you do need to ask as they do not service the room properly and need reminding about towels. Food and drinks are expensive, breakfast is excellent (4 courses). Comfy clean bed and the rooms are huge. Liked the lake view and the small infinity pool for relaxing in. The grounds are well kept and constantly being swept. Do not leave valuables outside even if you are in the pool and can see them as the monkeys will steal them as I found out when one pinched the room key. The local Tuktuk drivers are readily available and reasonable. Do visit the royal palace ruins as that is a great morning out, tickets are from the museum at the bottom of the hill. There are only 12 rooms in the hotel so it’s quite intimate.

Amazing Location Restaurant could be better

The location is amazing sitting on the side of one of Sri Lanka's largest ancient reservoirs (tanks) We were literally dying for a rice and curry but the waiter was unhelpful - perhaps he assumed that locals were not worth it. The day and our beloved lunch was saved by the intervention of the star of the House in the form of Wasantha Kumara. He took charge, explained everything and we had our rice n curry really fast. He also showed us around the property which of course is where HM Queen Elizabeth II stayed all those years ago. That room is as magnificebn as all the other rooms. The staff maketh a property and Wasantha did it for the EKHO Lake House. Not cheap but really good value for money.

Nothing was too much trouble

Had a wonderful two night stay. The staff were extremely helpful and did anything they could to make our stay memorable. Manager arranged for a local guide to show us around the sites (and arranged bicycle hire for us) and recommended an authentic restaurant for lunch. The icing on the cake was our upgrade to the royal suite on our last evening. Truly memorable visit.
