Charming but not quite perfect
The decor is charming, and for a night or two the Stone Cottage was fine. But there are a few factors that make it not quite perfect: the lighting in the bathroom is impossible for applying makeup and other mirrors are in less than ideal spots for this task. There is little space for toiletries in the bathroom. A workout on my yoga mat revealed dust under the furniture and cobwebs here and there. But the bed was extremely comfortable and the road noise wasn’t a problem for us. We heard some in the morning but we wanted to rise early so we weren’t bothered. The location is just a little far for walking to restaurants.
Cottage and Lamas
Cottage just outside of Port Fairy centre. Well presented, clean and spacious. Owners very friendly and helpful. Nice grounds also for relaxing. And even some Lamas out back. Off road parking also. Another advantage you can take your dog. Look forward to a future visit.
Cute cottage with roaming chickens but road noise.
There are five cottages of different sizes in this rural setting and we stayed in number 3. It's a cute cottage with rather dated furnishings, but there are lovely outdoor spaces to sit. It's basically a two-roomed space with an L-shaped bedroom/living room/kitchen and a rather oversized bathroom for the size of the small cottage. We weren't adjacent to the road but we could still hear the traffic in the morning (and we live on the South Circular in London!) The bathroom has both a spa bath, which would take about an hour and a half to fill if used, and an unenclosed shower which doesn't really drained very well so the whole floor ends up soaking wet. There's also only a tiny shelf above the sink to put any toiletries, which is difficult when you're travelling. One other thing worth mentioning is that there are hardly any sockets so we ended up having to put a-our phones in the bathroom to charge, which really isn't ideal.
Very comfortable, great spa, cheeky chickens, but a bit of road noise
We stayed for one night as our last stop along Great Ocean Road (actually a bit beyond). The owners were not there, but they emailed enough details for finding Clonmara and checking in. The whole place is very pretty, nice size, clean and a very comfortable bed. The chickens became friends immediately, following us inside happily clucking away and scrounging for anything on he floor. The spa was a big bonus, took a while to fill up but worked well. Only disadvantages were that you cannot cook anything - no oven, stove or cooktop, and the road noise because our cottage nr 2 was directly along Princes Highway. Also - no real curtains, just some blinds, so quite a bit of light comes in early morning. But all in all - a very nice stay.
‘Cheeky Chooks’
We stayed for one night on our way along the coast. We did not meet the owners, but they left clear and concise details for getting there and checking in. The whole place is delightful with a great ambience. Cottage was a great size with all you require for a comfortable stay. Chooks and alpacas are fun to watch. Chooks happy to follow you looking for their next meal... Place is situated just off main road and we were in cottage 6 which was lovely and quiet. We loved staying here and would definitely recommend.
