May 2021 Family Holiday

We absolutely loved staying here at Adriana Beach Hotel Resort. We stayed in two modern upgraded suites near to the amenities of the hotel. The pool area was lovely with restaurant, snack area and pool bar nearby. The animation team worked really hard even through COVID to ensure everyone was having a great time. We especially enjoyed the 'Latino dance' and other music they played during the daytime.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, close to a lovely beach and nature all around the hotel. Lots of beautiful birds to see and the gardens are kept in immaculate condition. I enjoyed seeing all the different trees, cacti and flowers.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and suited us as as a family with a range of dietary needs. The Pizza in particular was AMAZING! We really enjoyed the choice of different cuisine in the evening. In the restaurant we really appreciated the clean plates and cutlery packs on the table with individual tongs to pick up food in the Buffett. We would love to see this also being used beyond COVID. An excellent clean practice!
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the hotel for being so warm, friendly and polite during our stay. We really appreciated how friendly and helpful you all were especially in the dining room.
Honest Review - 10 Day Stay from UK

After reading some of the reviews prior to departing on the 14th June we were a little apprehensive. The bottom line, this is a classic 4* All Inclusive. If you are expecting 5* hotel with 5* services and facilities, this is not the hotel for you, but if you are looking for a getaway in a pleasant resort with the basics, you can't go wrong.
Travelled as a couple 14th - 23rd June
We arrived at 12PM and despite our booking stating check in was not until 3PM we were happy that after a long morning a room was ready and we were taken by golf buggy straight to our room.
On hearing we were in block AA (the block across the road) my heart sank. After driving past the block in our taxi and from reading previous reviews we expected it to be terrible. Is it a little further from the centre of the resort? Yes. But is still only a 5 minute walk and if any porters see you they will offer a lift in their golf buggy. For us this was fine and we enjoyed the stroll to and from the room.
The room itself AA211 was pleasant and had been recently refurbished. A good sized room, with sofa and walk in shower. One bottle of water was left for us but the usual tea/coffee facilities you would normally find in a hotel room were absent. The balcony was a huge let down for us; so small we could not both stand out there at the same time and it was dark and dingy. We were woken on our first night at 2:30AM by shouting outside our room, but this is not the hotels fault. Housekeeping was as expected, although a few times we had a knock on the door before 9AM which is far too early and woke us.
Main pool is lovely and clean and we always found there were plenty of available sunbeds. Unfortunately the sunbeds were of poor quality and many seemed broken. Music is played throughout the day, so if this isn't for you I would suggest going to the 'quiet' pool which we didn't use but seemed just as nice.
We only experienced using the Sunset Bar. Perhaps it was being early in the season or the hotel operating at limited capacity, but we never had to queue for drinks which was a welcome surprise. Bar staff were all friendly. The drinks are standard all inclusive selection. If you don't enjoy the all inclusive offerings there is the option to upgrade to a premium band for 20 euros per day, which gives you named brands and premium cocktails. The downside is this is the only AI hotel we have been to where the bar closes at 11PM which is very early. Signs say you can purchase drinks after 11PM, but we found every night they shut the doors to the bar so you could not get any at all. There is a good little shop opposite the bar, but again this shuts at 11PM.
A different answer if you asked both people who travelled! For a vegan the options were limited, but this is not surprising for a European AI hotel. The food is repetitive and basic, but they are catering to a mass audience. Compared to other hotels the selection was not huge, but the hotel is operating at limited capacity so perhaps this had an impact.
As a note from someone with allergies: the first few days were difficult to navigate and it was a welcome addition to see by the second half of our holiday signs were put up for each food stating the allergens. You are given tongues at your table to serve food with. Whilst this is a good idea for Covid precautions, it is not great if you are vegan or have allergies as cross contamination occurs. It is not pleasant knowing that someone has used the same tongues to pick up salad as they have meat produce when you are vegan. You are also only given one plate for your meal. If you want a second helping you have to reuse the plate which can get messy and unpleasant. A suggestion would be coloured tongues e.g blue for meat/fish/dairy produce and red for salad/veg and a second plate or side plate. On our last day a chef spoke to us asking if one of us was vegan and told us we should have spoken to them on our first day and they would have catered specially which was a nice, (just belated!) sentiment.
The beach is stunning and so clean. The only reason we did not spend any days at the beach was because there is no bar or toilets and it is a 10 minute walk to the main resort.
Gym was open but you have to currently book to use. There is also an outdoor gym. The indoor pool and sauna were closed. There are also tennis courts that you can pay to use.
Animation team were fantastic. According to locals and hotel staff we were very unlucky with the weather as we had several days overcast/rainy and as a beach resort there was nothing to do. The animation team did their best to take our mind off the weather and it was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed joining in with the activities, but the team were not pushy if you preferred to stay by the pool. A special mention to Carols, Gary and Dyogo who were fantastic and so friendly - they really made our holiday fun and memorable.
The grounds of the hotel are well kept and the common areas including reception were nicely decorated. The only downfall was the reception toilets that weren't always the cleanest. Mask wearing is enforced around the hotel and it is obvious the hotel are trying their best to work to Covid precautions.
We booked a transfer through Hoppa and arrived at the hotel in around half an hour. The hotel is halfway between Albufeira and Vilamoura and offers a shuttle bus to both. We opted to use Uber and it cost approx. 10-12 euros each way for a 20 minute journey. We also walked along the beach to Vilamoura in around 30 minutes.
Generally we found all staff to be welcoming, with the exception of a few reception staff who were stand offish and unhelpful. Due to the poor weather for part of our holiday we wanted to extend by 2 extra nights and were first told that this would not be a problem and we could stay in our room for 190 euros per night. We then went back the next day to book this and could not have had a less helpful response. We were first told to come back the night before we wanted to stay to book this, which we told them would not work because we would have to know in order to re arrange our flights in advance. We were then told we couldn't extend our holiday unless we wanted to pay 220 euros per night and move to the other end of the resort. As the hotel was empty for the majority of our stay we could not understand why this was. We said we would move to a different hotel for the last two nights and were met with a shrug of shoulders.
If you are staying at the Adriana we would recommend jumping in an Uber to Vilamoura for dinner/to see the marina and then walking back along the beach. The marina is beautiful and we would highly recommend the Thai Beach Club for a meal out.
Family holiday to Portugal!
Reviewed 26 June, 2021
This holiday was booked due to Turkey going red & us no longer being able to travel there. Portugal wouldn’t be our first choice of holiday but we was desperate to get away & very grateful we could in such circumstances.
On arrival to Adriana (1pm) we checked in & was told to get a drink from the bar, put our luggage in the store room & await our rooms. 2 hours later - still no room ready, around 3 hours later we were called up to say 2 rooms were ready for us - the woman at the desk had told us one of the rooms stunk of cigarettes but to have a look and see if it was suitable (all 4 of us are non smokers) but we went anyway - the rooms at Adriana are in blocks named in letters, they had put us in block W which you can imagine is near the end of the alphabet so was right at the other end of the complex away from everything …. On arrival to the bedrooms before even entering the room your breath was taken away by the smell of cigarettes, it smelt like the people in before us had been smoking with all windows and doors shut for 7 days solid. The bedrooms were standard would definitely not say 4 stars. There was 2 bin bags of rubbish on our doorstep which the cleaners had forgotten to take also which wasn’t nice to be greeted by. We called the receptionist using the phone in the room to tell them the smell was unacceptable and we were not prepared to stay there as non smokers - the thought of unpacking my case and my clothes stinking of cigarettes made me feel sick. The receptionist was blunt / rude on the phone and told us we needed to come back down to reception to discuss this - reception was a fair walk away & we needed the young chap driving the buggy to come and collect us & our luggage to bring us back down to reception, we waited and waited and still nothing - had to ring back a further 3/4 times. Eventually my partner walked down to reception & asked the staff if we could have a buggy sent to collect us which the young chap who drove it was so helpful & kind, carrying our luggage etc. When we got to reception we waited 20 mins which was annoying when we had been waiting around hours on end to check in - eventually we got told to view 2 different rooms in block K which was a fair bit closer; these 2 rooms were to a completely different standard, more modern, less dated & much cleaner, one ground floor for my disabled mother & father as requested. And the above floor for me & my partner (right above). We accepted these rooms & was pleased with them! (Could not understand why we weren’t put in those in the first place when they were available). The cleaner came into the bedroom everyday (unless we didn’t want her to) fresh bedding, towels, water & the bins changed, floors mopped which was great! There were 2 pools in the complex which we decided to stay at the quieter one throughout the 10 days we were there. The food wasn’t great although was plenty to choose from especially if you like fish dishes / scampi / pizza. Very repetitive but ok. The social distancing was good and masks to be worn at all times whilst stood up. The entertainment in the hotel was good and plenty on for young children. The drinks were a good selection & the queues for them especially of a night time weren’t too bad. Over all the hotel was 7/10 for us as we didn’t eat some nights as the food wasn’t to our taste (we’re English).
Overall good holiday, more a 3 star than a 4. The staff were polite & pleasant & the rooms were clean! :)
Standard all inclusive but entertainment made it one of the better places I've visited.

Food and room was standard all inclusive. Nice resort. Maids were a little too early doing their rounds. Entertainment alone gets 5 stars. Gary and Carlos in particular were energetic, great company and made it their mission to know our names, help us get the dances in the evenings and involve us is as much as we liked. Beer pong and volleyball were very enjoyable and the summer games around the pool which included all members of the team was amazing giving the weather was overcast but this was forgotten while we were occupied. Miguel and Diogo (On his first week) where also a joy to meet and speak with. Would I go back? Maybe. But if you guaranteed me these guys would be there, no question, I'll go back. Balconies were a disappointment in block AA other than that, AA wasn't a bad block to be in! I've looked into doing entertainment myself and it's hard work, long days but these guys were phenomenal! Thanks again Gary, Carlos and the team... Woooopa!
