More about the hotel
Very nice 2 star hotel, very nice restaurant and a decent pool
The hotel is located some 3-4 kilometers from Saint-Christol village. The hotel is indeed a 2 star hotel, so expectations should be according to that. The staff was super friendly and the restaurant was very good. The hotel is a bit isolated, so taking a walk from the hotel means walking along the road, which is not that pleasant, but driving a few kilometers away, means you have many walking options.
Hotel is ok - restaurant is amazing
The hotel is very basic. Nothing wrong with it and for 66 euros/night not a bad value. They accept dogs and don't charge any supplement for it. The people who run the hotel are extremely nice. The restaurant, on the other hand, is fantastic and worth a visit even if you're not staying at the hotel. However, it's nice to have your bed nearby when you've had as much good food and wine as we did!
Very basic
The first thing I noticed here was a strong smell of stale lavender—everywhere! Opening the windows for several hours helped. Rooms are very small. basic, kind of Motel 6 but smaller, cheap construction. There was a dearth of electric outlets for phone, toothbrush. Wifi very weak. The restaurant was much better than the hotel and we enjoyed our dinner.
Very basic and overpriced
We booked Les Lavandins at the last minute for a night stay during a cycle tour - it was the only place with availability on the internet for less than EUR200. It is a very basic hotel, tired and located in the middle of nowhere. I'm OK with budget places when the price is also budget. When I have stayed in places like Les Lavandins before, I've paid around EUR 40 per night. However the price here was EUR 87. The food is also very basic but the prices are again about double what you would pay in a local town. EUR 28 for the menu du jour and the food was really simple (and not in an inspired simple way). I'd just paid EUR 14 for something similar at lunch so felt quite ripped off. Breakfast is also a rip off. On the up the waitress who served us dinner was lovely.
They try hard, but it stays just 'all right'.
If not for the really nice swimming pool our three-night stay here would have been a total dud. The room was very small and it was not possible to sit outside it while e.g. having a coffee. If you don't like traditional Provencal food then you will go hungry - we thought we would like it but some meals were (to us) not good at all, and it cost a fortune as well. Using this place as a base also entails a lot of driving as there are very few sights in the area. The staff did their best, though.
