Disappointing
As soon as Lily opened in June 2020, we reserved for a week. Appreciated: the view is stunning. The landscaping, while needing another year to fully mature (the building was finished in 2019) is exceptional. The two main eating area Cyprus trees (see photos) are majestic. We stayed in one of the mid-priced rooms; the room design is definitely amazing and well appointed. Loved the Dyson hair dryer. The attendants outside, managing the very busy flow of cars, of the visitors coming to take in this new and buzzed about hotel, are great. The food was delicious but.... (more on that below in disappointments). The bar area is gorgeous. Some of the staff, especially the concierge and shift managers were attentive, professional and authentic. The gym is really good. As an athlete, I was impressed by the equipment and facility design. Disappointments: In comparison to many 5 star wellness holidays/hotels/resorts around the world, Lily of the Valley is decidedly more luxury than wellness. Unfortunately for them, like many hotels, they are beholden to - and more actively supportive of - a clientele who smokes, a lot, than one that doesn't. Because the wonderful 25 meter lap pool, (see photo) is surrounded by day beds, a lap swimmer or gym exerciser might be confronted by cigarette smoke while working out, in the wellness area! While the hotel is prey to French legislation, they could, like other places, make concessions that support their brand promise. Some of the reception staff are no doubt lovely but are highly inexperienced and the service is very inconsistent. Based on the older reviews, they haven't addressed this yet. There's a general lack of positive affect, aside from concierge and shift managers; people are ironically over-focused on what their roles require rather than what the client requires. They confuse professionalism with pretense. Once you reserve your stay, you are invited to send in preferences for pillows, air con temp, food needs, etc. As any 5 start wellness knows, food options are critical. We indicated vegetarian on our form. Did anyone look at that?? At dinner the first night we asked for something besides the two veg options: the proverbial quinoa salad and risotto. The waiters, literally, stammered (again, inexperienced) that we could " have a plate of vegetables or pasta ". This is a 5 star hotel focussed on wellness? The hotel is luxury but the value is not there yet for the cost and what they advertise. Their pricing strategy just doesn't make sense. An ice cream desert in the restaurant cost 5 euro, a simple popsicle by the pool, 6 euro. A plate of one layer of thinly sliced tomatoes, sprinkled w/ onions and some mild feta, cost a staggering 28 euro in the little cafe by the lap pool at lunch time, whereas the quinoa salad, of much more volume, herbs, dressing and fabulous flavor, was 28 euro in the restaurant at dinner time. There are other inconsistencies that when added up were too many, hence the 3 star review. Despite traveling for decades this is the first review I've ever felt compelled to write. The experience was too ' off '; I hope that with more feedback the hotel will be able to address some of the personnel issues and other matters.
Amazing new year
Been there for new year's eve. Amazing place with friendly staff. Indeed staff can seem sometime a bit lost but maybe that for this specific event , extra people were hired? Nevertheless the place is amazing, very comfortable room will all needed appliance and a great balcony. Wonderful 01st January breakfast with an amazing sea view (see picture). Beautiful decoration by Philippe stark.
wonderful
I came to the Illy of the Valley as a surprise...I was knocked over by it its beauty. My partner and I had 6 wonderful meals upstairs....great service...great food. It was a truly special, very bespoke time...I can't wait to get back to Lily this summer to continue the magic of this wonderful hotel. Gorgeous.
Spectacular views
Designed by Philippe Starck, the hotel is set up on the hills above the Gigaro Beach .The environment is secondary to the landscape and totally in touch with nature . From everywhere one stands, it's about the views . Eco friendly materials are used to create a stylish decor throughout . The rooms are very comfortable, the service Impeccable, the food delicious ... but at a price !
Good place to visit
This new hôtel and restaurant was built on the spot of the former “Souleias”, already known for the best view over the sea and to the islands of Levant. Very modern , good taste (except for the horrible carpet going from the entrance to the restaurant ), the visit here is a must while staying in La Croix-Valmer. Unfortunately service at restaurant, even if friendly, is very slow if not simply inexistant, but kitchen is great and food is of remarkable selection and freshness. Just order a salade niçoise - you seldom will have seen such a fine mixture of the very best and young sprouts of vegetables.
