Great stay, lovely people
We loved our time here. Jorge and the family made us welcome, even when Jorge, who speaks great English, was out, the family were great at helping us in our mixed Spanish and English. Jorge arranged a hire car for us, which was seamless to pick up and drop off direct at the hotel. The two rooms we stayed in were nicely furnished and the bathrooms were adequate - there was always hot water. Wifi was excellent. And the breakfast! Wow! Cakes, home made honey, breads, meats, cheese, fruit - all varied everyday, and all served to your table. The best way to start the day. We felt so at home here - we came back 3 days after our first stay and we were welcomed back again. Its a short walk to the town centre across the train tracks (perfectly safe) but you'll be glad you chose this place.
Good value
We got upgraded to a family room for four. It was a large room with comfy beds (queen and two singles), a small TV, decent size shower and a large cupboard. No air con. Wifi strong and fast. Good cleaning service- our clothes which had been strewn about even got folded! Friendly staff and a good breakfast: cake, bread, salami, cheese, jam, fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee/tea. Located 7mins walk from town and up the hill on the other side of the train tracks, but perfectly safe. They did laundry for an ok price. Room was good value. Main issue was the shower water temperature, which was hard to balance and occasionally went very cold or very hot (perhaps when others had a shower at the same time?). Ocassionally it was also noisy, as the walls/floors were wood and thin. Overall, a good value option.
Lovely cozy place
The bed was really comfortable - firm but cozy. The breakfast was quite diverse - meats, cheese, bread, and cake! The wifi signal was not strong in my room, but the speed was very high so it wasn't a problem. There are some common rooms with lovely soft furniture and the lake is just a 5 minute walk down the hill. The staff are really nice and the main guy speaks English well. He also drove us to the airport for less than a taxi. The shower is a little small but not bad. There is a disused train station next to it, but it seems to have become a sort of community area, so don't be put off.
Trip to Puerto Varas
We stayed at this Hostel for our days in the Lake Region of Chile. We found the hostel clean, and homey. The room we stayed in was large with 2 single beds and a bunkbed. There is a closet for clothes, a TV and dresser. The bathroom is small but clean and adequate with plenty of hot water. The living rooms are big and we were able to use them for having evening snacks etc. The breakfast is simple, but there is plenty of it. Every day there is bread, butter, cheese, salami, coffee, tea, and each day something extra such as fruit, pastry etc. There is no elevator, but our bags were taken up the stairs for us by the owner. The family that runs the hostel is very friendly and helped us by giving directions and suggestions on how to organize our day - where to go, what to see etc. They also provide tours if necessary. They also provide the ride to and from the airport in Puerto Montt. We really enjoyed our stay at thi hostel!
Welcoming and Friendly
Super warm and friendly atmosphere. The hosts will always make sure you feel really at home. I've been twice to Puerto Varas and I've always enjoyed this welcoming hotel. Next time I go back to Puerto Varas, I'll make sure I'll stay at the Chancerel. Not only are both the accommodation and breakfast excellent, but the Chancerel staff have always been kind to offer different options of tours and sightseeing activities. Good value for the money and, above all, warm, friendly and helpful staff.
