Beautiful grounds, terrible food, aggressive staff

I traveled here with 2 friends. The grounds of the resort are absolutely gorgeous! The beach is stunning as well! Other then that, not a great place to go. The food was terrible and gave us all very upset stomachs. As well, we saw cockroaches running from under the trays in the buffet.
However the biggest issue we had was with some of the security guards on the resort. At one point they actually came into our room without permission and attempted to sit on the bed and touch a friend we were with. We had to physically remove him from our room. When we returned to Canada, the security guard must have gotten my phone number from the hotel records and started texting me and threatening me. When I brought this up and showed proof to Sunwing vacations, and the hotel, I was told that we should have said something there if we wanted anything done about it. I explained that we did not feel safe bringing up an issue when we were still at the resort, we were worried about any further advances or worse if we were to complain. Sunwing and the resort advised us that there was nothing they could do. We were not even offered a partial refund, or apology. This resort is sketchy. I would not recommend.
Diplorable rooms and misleading discriptions

When we checked in we had to find our room on our own.. unlike us be sure to access support from your luggage carrier to find your room.
Please note that there is no elevators, if you have mobility issues this isn't the hotel for you. There are 3 floors all accessible through stairs.
The rooms need extreme maintenance, during my stay the ceiling was leaking in the bathroom. I got my card changed twice because it denied me access to my room. several other guest were having the same issue. At one point several and guest and I were complaining in line.
Also, the air conditioning unit broke, on our first night.
The sheets on the bed was dirty. Please note after contacting the receptionist they followed up immediately. Still, I've never encountered this before and I was utterly flabbergasted.
The buffet is relatively clean, no options for vegetarians and most of the food was bland. You need to set a reservation for the other restaurants which include, Mexican food, Asian cuisine, and Gourmet. Nothing special I food was blend, oil and overcooked. Staff followed covid screenings.
The snack bar serves burgers, and chips. It was never opened on time. The chips were stale. We left the resort numerous times to get food outside. We felt relatively safe in the area we ate at Punta Cana cookout and Rivera punta cana.
If you're a women still you will get catcalled, I just ignored them but I no point did we feel unsafe.
Furthermore, the ocean is not blue , we were told that the beaches have not been in good condition for years. Lots of sea weeds in the ocean, The water is brown. Its not in their control but its very important that this is highlighted.
Please be mindful of the excursions they are not as described, I.E seeing dolphins they are in a pool. natural pool is brown water, nothing special, however Saona Island is a must. The water is beautiful and crystal clear. The buggy ride is also fun.
Anyway on the resort the pools needed cleaning, however, there is tones of trees sounding the area.
The overall property is beautiful minus the rooms.
There is also spa services which I enjoyed, they also do filters, lip injections, botox.
Every night they was a show at the theatre.
Please note the internet, wifi is horrible!!! its the worst, there are different internet stations to get wifi but it's horrible. I literally had to sit near the gym to access internet while mosquitos bite me. Do not forget your mosquito spray.
Bar staff were nice, kitchen staff nice unlimited drinks.
I wouldn't recommend this place, but the location is relatively good. The rooms were the biggest disappointment.
No iron in the room, or microwave

Making a review during Covid season is very hard because the hotel is not working at 100%. But I can tell you that it is a beautiful, relaxing and well maintained area, including the rooms, public restrooms and the 3 pools.
The 3 pools were very clean but not enough loungers, specially at the main one.
The beach had a lot of seaweeds, but the hotel tried to remove them twice a day.
The animation during the day was good, but I have nothing to say about the night show because it started at 10pm (too late for us).
Nothing special about the food or the drinks. There were theme nights at the buffet: Spanish, Mexican and Italian. The food at the Japanese and Mexican a la carte restaurants were good with great services.
The worst was the check in time: It took 90 minutes for the only clerk available at that time of day, after 5pm. Mr. Angel was very professional despite all the pressure at the moment, and the frustrated people that wanted to be checked in but had to wait as he was alone. He was very caring, and dealt with us very quickly, with a smile on his face.
The question: Do we want to return? ...Definitely yes.
Online Description and Reviews Misleading

COVID aside, this resort was not as advertised. There are no paddle boards to rent, and limited water sports equipment available at all. The beach had extremely aggressive panhandlers that the resort did nothing about. The pool water was hot all the time and the pools close by 7pm so night swimming was not an option. Nothing on the resort, including towel rentals, was available until at least 9am. Communication was extremely difficult with staff and was very limited in terms of activities. It was impossible to find out what was going during the day if anything, what shows were at night and what restaurants were available. It was nearly impossible to get dinner reservations for any night despite the restaurants being nearly empty. The food and beverage was a huge disappointment, the drinks especially varied bar to bar and were undrinkable. The shows at night were subpar and did not seem professional at all. They also don't provide any COVID testing on Sundays but that information is not communicated until you sit down to make your appointment. While the pricing was considerably lower compared to other resorts, you get what you pay for here. Front desk staff were extremely unhelpful and it was a minimum of a 30 minute wait to even speak to a staff member.
Beauty with rats!

First, I'll start with the positive things. undoubtedly they are in this hotel:
- very beautiful and well-groomed area (including a wide beach strip, which is buried in greenery).
The tropical garden is simply magnificent,
- well-organized cleaning of algae on the belt. Bravo to the staff !, the beach was always clean.
- housekeeping works well, always welcoming;
- the female waiters are also very welcoming and hospitable.
- food in the restaurant is acceptable, average level.
- Evening animation program just in Spanish (excluding a short greeting in English)
BUT there are also a number of very unpleasant moments.
- very rude, absolutely unfriendly male bartenders! They only treat Spanish speaking guests well !!! The rest are ignored, they reluctantly fulfill orders, and sometimes they refuse !!!
We stayed from 17.07 to 28.07, in building 11, room # 11115.
This was our honeymoon month. And, unfortunately, our vacation was ruined.
At night, on the last day of our vacation, a rat climbed into our room !!!! I woke up to the sound of my watch and some other small things falling off the table while the rat was climbing the table. Turning on the light and seeing a huge rat on the table in the room, I fell into hysterics ... the animal immediately ran away. When my husband and I carefully examined the room, we found rat droppings everywhere (on the table, on the shelves, in the wardrobe, on the floor ... everywhere !!!). You can make a withdrawal that this is not the first visit of the rat to our room that night. Later, we also saw rat droppings in the hallway of the building.
On the night of the incident, upon a complaint we were given another room for the last night. But naturally, I practically did not sleep any more, because I listened to every sound.
I haven’t received a single apology for what happened from the hotel management!!! The hotel management simply does not care about their guests!!!
Any worthy hotel takes care of its guests! At the very least, strong masking nets should be installed on the balcony doors in order to prevent rats and other dangerous animals and insects from entering the rooms !!!
