Excellent hospitality, high quality

Vincent and Thyra are wonderful hosts who welcomed us during 3 nights. You should try the dinner they prepare, especially your first night if you come late, as there is no restaurant nearby it's very practical but most of all it's made with natural products and with love. I still have the taste of the bread we ate during the breakfast which was very wide. The suit we stayed was very comfortable, especially the bed. All the details were thought for respecting the rest of the visitors. Our hosts gave also very good tips for visiting the region. Last but not least, Vincent speaks fluent Spanish, and pets are welcome. All was excellent, thank you very much!

Wonderful experience

Reviewed 11 july, 2013

We stayed one night "entre filles" during our whirlwind tour of the Aquitaine region. For me personally, Chateau de la Combe was the most noteworthy accommodation of all the places we stayed. The beds were very comfortable; the pool was clean and refreshing; most of all, the hosts were very warm and sociable. I strongly recommend having dinner with the hosts. The home cooked meal was one of the best we had through out the trip. And we had a great time sharing stories with the other guests and the hosts, who graciously helped us communicate between English and French. I would love to make my way back. Luckily it is not too difficult to get to from Paris.

Peaceful, memorable stay at the Chateau de la Combe

Reviewed 1 may, 2013

We had a lovely one-night stay at the charming Chateau de la Combe last week. It was the last night of our 2-week trip, and it was one of the most memorable, thanks to the tranquil atmosphere and warm, inviting hosts. We chose the Chateau because of its proximity to the Angouleme train station, from which we took the TGV directly to CDG Airport for our flight home. It was a short, painless 25-minute drive to the Angouleme train station. Upon arriving at the Chateau, we were greeted by proprietress Thyra and her sweet Golden Lab. She showed us to our room, the Lewis Room (named after C.S. Lewis), which featured a super comfortable bed, original wood floors and an enormous window that opened out to the woods and fields outside. The attached bathroom was small, but not tiny by French standards, and well-appointed, with a bath/shower. We took a long stroll around the property at dusk, enjoying the birds chirping and dipping our feet in the pool. At dinnertime, Thyra & Vincent served us and the other guests aperitifs and hors d'oeuvres in the garden, and then a delicious, well-prepared meal of Pear Avocado Salad, Homemade Bread, Sabre with Mango, Local Cheeses and Chocolate Mousse. It was superb. Also, they were accommodating of my pescatarian diet, which is no small consideration in France. Thyra & Vincent speak excellent English, but were patient with us practicing our French. We enjoyed lovely dinner conversation. The meal (food & company) was certainly a highlight of our trip. We slept well in the peace and quiet. (The enormous window has blackout shutters outside, which allowed us to sleep in a bit.) In the morning, we ate breakfast and had coffee with everyone and went on our way. We really hope to return someday.

Petit WE sympa dans un charmant endroit

Reviewed 31 july, 2022
