Lovely hostel
We were greeted early morning by the most helpful staff. Holding our cases before check in and supplying guest showers to freshen up! The staff were very genuine and caring. The communal area was brilliant we spent lots of time there, kitchen was kept in brilliant order with great facilities, and the couch area was brilliant to chill out. Rooms were also lovely and clean. Felt very at home! Thanks again
The good, the bad, the ugly...
I stayed at Airlie Beach YHA for one night in a private double room with en-suite bathroom - and since I was accommodated in room #14, I was happy I only had to stay one night. More on that later... The good - the staff is incredibly friendly, whether it is in communication via email, over the phone or in person. Despite me arriving with less than a minute to spare prior reception closing, the welcome was warm and friendly. Same at check-out, a very nice lady bid me farewell. The room was clean and spacious, and it was equipped with a tv and a fridge. The bad - room no.14 is located downstairs in the far corner of the parking lot. And despite its cheerful coat of green paint and the wall decor it is not meant to be a room but a storage area. It does not get any daylight and the ceiling is low. The ugly - in my quest to see where the windows lead, I moved the curtains, not a good idea. The frosted windows did not only lead nowhere, they were rather dirty, too. The webbed door leading to the hallway is clunky and it is used quite frequently, since a shared guest shower is in the hallway leading to the room. Annoying, yes! But that was not the only noise that irritated me... I am still not sure whether it was the A/C or the fridge, but one of these appliances sounded like a rather angry Darth Vader breathing. It definitely kept me from falling asleep for a few hours. With all of the above said, I cannot comment on the dorms or any of the other features and facilities, so when looking for a private room, maybe just ask for “any room but no. 14”...
Exactly what you want in a hostel
Great hostel run by a lovely friendly team. Big spacious clean rooms that have own lockers by beds, bathroom in room that is still private as well as a big balcony. Great WiFi, a/c, big clean kitchen to cook, pool, lounge and storage facilities. I’ve stayed in many hostels and this was definitely a favourite.
Fantastic, peaceful hostel in town centre
I stayed here with my husband (we're 27) last week for a night. The two older (sorry!) ladies at the check-in were welcoming, informally professional and so so funny. They said they had only been running the hostel for around four months, so pretty new management. There was plenty of free storage for our bags as we were too early for check in. The laundry facilities are great. We stayed in an 8-bed dorm (room 20) which was spacious and spotless with a nice balcony overlooking the swimming pool. The kitchen/dining area was great with everything you could possibly need. Yes, the hostel is quiet in the evening, but right outside, theres bars and restaurants for evening fun and entertainment IF requires. I loved the fact you could get a peaceful sleep here at the YHA. Beds were comfortable and there are plenty of sockets in the room. Thank you for a good stay. We'll be back.
