Wonderful views and hospitality

First thing you notice when you arrive at this hotel, is the gorgeous views of the remarkables and Lake wakatipu. We had a lake view room with a balcony, which we didn't really use, but it would be nice in summer. The service at this hotel was impeccable. It is an older property, with some cool retro decor, but the important things have been replaced and they get the balance right. The beds are lush ! pillow tops with the pillows beautiful as well,. The room had fresh paint and was very clean. The bathroom was clean (shower only). The view from the balcony is wonderful, the remarkables are a bit harder to see from the balcony due to the walls on either side. We had a cooked breakfast included, which was ok, quality could have been better. We had room service once, and again the food was just ok. The location is better with a car, as the walk into town is quite vigorous on the way back (all up hill). We aren't fit though, so for others it might be more manageable. The hotel is excellent value if you get a good rate. I couldn't fault the hospitality , the front desk staff greeted us every time we entered the lobby. Housekeeping was good. There is a spa there that you have to book ( we didn't use). One of the lifts was out of service whilst we were there, which wasn't too big a problem unless you had to access the restaurant.

I would not say 4 star although star ratings are distorted these days. Deco is a bit tired. Our room kitchen floor was sticky. Perhaps just forgot to clean.
Bathroom had black dirt in grout. Shower pressure was low.
We had room service food which was average as well. But perhaps it is what you pay for.
The view of the lake however was amazing.
Staff friendly. And apart from above mentioned items the room was tidy and satisfactory.
Very close to town. For us it was good for 2 nights stay.
Reasonably priced but very tired

This hotel was l reasonably priced for a two bed apartment and had a lovely view. However while the kitchens had recently been updated, the rest of the room/hotel was very tired. All the furniture had lots of marks - the photo included is in the hotel lobby which did not make for a great first impression.
Additionally it was very cold in the rooms, we weren’t in the dead of winter but even with the heaters blasting we definitely felt the chill.
Old and tired

This place is so old and tired I’m surprise they even open the doors. No significant updates since I last stayed 21 years ago. I appreciate staff are hard to get at the moment, however these guys are really battling. Struggling to say anything positive other than the location, I think the photo of the chairs in the bar tells the story
A Very Wonderful Stay

My husband and I stayed for two nights on the third floor in a great room with Lakeside views. The room was very comfortable, the decor of the hotel a little tired but did not detract from our stay at all. Bed was very comfortable, our room was very clean. We had sparse tea, coffee, cups, toiletries, but just sufficient for our use. No herbal teas though if you prefer them. The room was quiet and perfect for our stay. We went to breakfast in Hillary's restaurant, which was pleasant, cooked and non cooked variety of food, great view too. Played pool in the bar which was fun. They looked after our luggage after a nice late check out which was helpful. Staff lovely, prompt and friendly. 12 minute downhill walk into town, but there are bus stops right outside the hotel. Just buy a $5 Bee card and top up, Bus rides even out to Arrowtown are only $2 each. They have car parking in their garage if you have a car. Thanks for a lovely stay..
