Lovely boutique hotel in an old town neighborhood

Reviewed 18 july, 2021

We stayed here for 3 nights before departing on a Galapagos tour. It was convenient for exploring Old town, which felt very safe for travelers on foot. It was somewhat out of the way for other parts of Quito, but not a bad trade off. It's somewhat of an old world experience and the service is impressive. They coordinated our Covid test, served us a multi-course breakfast and were at our service for anything we needed. There's an atrium at the hotel that's used for meetings and events, so depending on what's going on, noise can transfer directly into rooms due to the tile floors. There's no restaurant and only a small roof top bar.

Very Nice Hotel

Reviewed 10 july, 2021

This is a very nice old hotel in a great location. We really enjoyed our stay here and felt the service and food was excellent. Would love to stay here again. One morning we didn't have hot water and that dampened my feelings about the place a bit but they fixed the issue and it shouldn't be a normal thing. We really liked all the staff - very friendly and well trained. Breakfast was good and dinner was even better. Loved being able to walk down the street to old town Quito. Beds and entire room were very comfortable.

Spoiled by Hotel Mama Cuchara.

My wife and I are on our way to the Galápagos Islands and wanted to check out Quito. What a wonderful hotel! Tucked away about 4-5 blocks from the town center, this newly renovated property is clean, loaded with beautiful art and fortunate to have a great team. My wife spoke with Stephany, one of the managers, several times coordinating the room and even oxygen tanks to address the high elevation (9,300+ feet above sea level). She was very nice and helpful. We’ve also met and spoken with Anita and Alexander, the other two managers who work very hard and have been great help. Coordinating meals, running laundry and even picking me up Advil from the local pharmacy have all gone smoothly thanks to their help. Another gem on property is their rooftop bar/restaurant. With vistas of the entire valley, we’ve enjoyed two wonderful meals taking in the view. Dino and Andrea, two of the servers, have spoiled us with attentive, friendly and professional service. They’ve also let me practice my Spanish while talking about the Quito community and places to visit while here. All in all, we’ve had a wonderful time here and look forward to visiting again in a year or two.

Wonderful place to stay

What a charming boutique hotel! Our trip was postponed from May 2020 to April 2021 so this was our first trip outside of the USA. We stayed here for two nights before heading to the Galapagos. The tourist industry been hit hard here. We were the only couple in the hotel. We had been upgraded to a large, beautiful room (#203). The hotel and rooms were immaculate. The bed was comfy and lots of wonderful pillows. The bathroom products smelled delicious. The coffee provided in the room was great. We could have sat and enjoyed it all morning but we had lots to see. (I will post our day with a guide on the forum). There is a great rooftop viewing area as well as a bar and small dining area. The main restaurant is in the center of the hotel. Food is awesome. Service....impeccable everywhere. Front desk, restaurant and security. Special shout out to Alex, Andrea and Anna who saw to our every need. As far as COVID protocols...hand sanitizer upon entering as well as throughout the hotel. I never saw any staff without a mask. There were also limitations on outsiders dining in the restaurant, not that there were ever a lot of people around.

World class service

Reviewed 27 march, 2021

I am from New York and was traveling alone in Ecuador for 2 weeks. I had the pleasure of staying at Mama Cuchara for 4 nights and it was magnificent. The service was truly world class, the food is excellent (the menu is all Ecuadorian dishes and an accompanying map shows the origin of each dish), the rooms are luxurious and wifi works well throughout the hotel. The highlight of my stay was the amazing and kind service of the staff, particularly Alex, Anna and Dino. As a seasoned traveler who has visited 48 countries I can vouch for the outstanding experience at Mama Cuchara. Also the rooftop bar has a glorious view of Quito, which you can enjoy while sipping a canelazo prepared by Dino.
