Wonderful countryside retreat
We stayed here a total of three nights, a perfect location for viewing the northern lights (although unfortunately each night was very stormy during our stay), gorgeous views, and great kitchenette. Our hostess was very nice and accommodating. The place was clean and cozy. Highly recommend.
Fantastic!
Fantastic little cottage. The interior design is just tremendous, everything we needed fit into such a tiny space, and creating such a cosy atmosphere. We arrived very late, and the owners gave us precise and easy instructions on obtaining the key. As we got out of the car, we were treated to the most spectacular Northern Lights show put on by nature! We sat in the patio and watched it for hours! Could not ask for more. A big thumbs up to the diffused external lighting used in the cottages, which are just enough to light up the door, but do not interfere with Aurora viewing. The next morning, the view from the window was wonderful - nothing but nature for miles around. And you can catch a glimpse of Seljalandsfoss too. The interior was small, but had everything we needed as a family of four. Cooking breakfast was a breeze, as we just chucked the kids out to run around in the fields, so they weren't under our feet. A proper free-range morning that we, as urban dwellers, are unused to. We only stayed overnight as a stopover, but loved it so much we wish we could have stayed longer.
Private, quiet, nice location, easy check-in and check-out
I read all the reviews before traveling to the Bru Guesthouse, so I knew exactly what to expect. We also stayed in other cottages in Iceland before. The only bad experience was that I spent my first ten minutes after arrival cleaning rather dirty floor (I used a half of my sanitizing wipes) and killing five flies. For most Americans that would not be an issue as they keep their shoes on inside. I and my family wanted to stay barefoot, so I had to clean. The rest went smooth. Beds were clean and comfy. I was overjoyed to find an extra bed for our ten year-old, it was nicely made. He found it comfy. Food cooking was challenging with one burner, but standard for Icelandic cabins, once you get used to it, it is OK. Kitchen area is tiny, just like in a hotel, but it is equipped with a microwave (convenient when heating the soup) and mini electric burner. My hubby was not happy with the value, but I cannot agree with him, as most hotels in the area are more expensive. My family did not like the view of tractors and digging in front, but one cal also look other direction - to the mountain and enjoy the vastness and the view, the sounds of the birds and sheep. We loved easy check in and check out - all information was provided comprehensively in the email before arrival. I loved privacy. Cabins are of different sizes, therefore of different value. View slightly differs as well. We stayed in cabin No. 3
Wish we could have stayed longer
These cottages were wonderful! They are very cute and were spacious enough for our family of four. We loved the location and the view from the cottages. We enjoyed hanging out with our friends on the deck while the kids ran around in the grass. Bru also offers a breakfast basket for 10 EUR. Considering the cost and for what you get in the "basket", I would recommend skipping it and trying to hit a grocery store in the town just before Bru (Hvolsvöllur). Otherwise, waking up and looking out at the view from our cottage was food for the soul!
Perfect stop for our family
We loved our cottage - we got the 2 person cottage with the sleeper sofa. Clean and with everything we needed. A bit warm when we checked in, but cooled off immediately. We received an email with our key code prior to our check in (which we did on line) and went straight to our cottage. They forgot linens for our sleeper sofa, but responded immediately to WhatsApp message and were there in 30 minutes - as we ran to grocery, came back and all was made up (and the sofa was a great sleep). Loved that the cabins all had windows facing out and did not look at each other. Great evening watching a womens' world cup match and playing uno.
