Fantastic hotel in a central location

Alda Hotel is a lovely hotel that's walking distance from many of the popular Reykjavik sights. It's also a convenient, short walk (less than 5 minutes) from bus stop #10 at Hlemmur (we used this stop for the FlyBus to/from KEF airport as well as a couple tour pick up's/drop off's). Right down the street from Alda, there is a Bonus store where you can pick up basic groceries that are reasonably priced. At check-in, you are provided a cell phone. The rooms do not have landlines so you use this phone if you need to contact the front desk. The phone is also free to use for making local calls and data usage (this really came in handy when we were exploring the city on our own and getting a lay of the land). When we checked out, we were able to store our luggage for a couple hours since we didn't have to leave for the airport immediately. The hotel staff were nice, the room was very clean/comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was worth the additional cost (e.g. scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, pastries). We appreciated that the hotel required booking in advance for breakfast. This is a Covid-related safety measure put into place in order to minimize the number of persons in the eating area. Our room had a safe to store small items. Near the elevators, there is a water station available to fill up your bottles. Overall, Alda Hotel was a very pleasant place to stay during our few nights in Reykjavik. It was worth the cost and I'd highly recommend it!

This hotel is on Laugavegur which is the main shopping district. The bus stop for tours is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The rooms were small but that is typical for hotels in Reyykavik. They were clean and functional. The breakfast buffet was similar to others we have had in Iceland. It is the staff that is responsible for the excellent rating. Upon arrival about 8:20 AM, our room wasn't ready. We didn't expect it to be and our contingent plan was to do the Lava Tunnel Tour. We did not book it in advance because we didn't know when we would arrive. The receptionist was able to book it for us, got us a taxi to the terminal because we missed the pick up time and we had a good tour. When we got back just after noon, they had a room for us. When we had a 7AM pick up for another tour, they had a a bag breakfast to take because the buffet didn't open until 7AM. When our Northern Lights tour was cancelled, they rescheduled it for us. The rooms do not have phones. They give guests a cell phone with the hotel numbers already saved and it is a phone we can use in Iceland if we need to call since our phones will not work

Perfect location!!!

We spent 5 nights at the Alda Hotel. We were lucky enough to be assigned a balcony room. :-) It was awesome to open the outside door and let the cool air inside! The balcony offered a full view of this area of the city. The Hallgrimskirkja was literally a 10 minute or less walk and was in view from our balcony. It was less than 5 minutes walk to the water, bus stops and many restaurants bars and shops. The room was well appointed and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast room was appreciated and priced similar to other places in the area. I would not hesitate to stay again. Grocery store was close by but no fridge to store perishables. That is the only down thing I can say.

Stayed there for two nights. Great location. Everything within walking distance to hotel. Rooms clean. Staff very polite and helpful. Our room was larger than expected. Only dislike was no drawer space/closet...however we were only staying two nights so was not big deal for us.

Excellent location and service

My sister and I stayed at the Alda Hotel for 5 nights. The hotel is extremely well located for both bus and walking convenience. The room and amenities were clean, super comfortable, and quiet. Of particular note, the staff were friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. In particular, we compliment Klaudia for helping us navigate a variety of different questions and situations. Her helpful and professional attitude, and her knowledge of Icelandic tourism, help make our trip excellent.
