Avoid, so many problems on a one night stay

Reviewed 28 november, 2021

Arrived, given someone's else's room on checkin (found out when we opened the hotel room door) so had to go back to front desk, got a new apartment, smelt bad, water tasted and smelt of sulphur, shower water sulphurous (smelt of egg), hairdryer didn't work so girlfriend had to go out with wet hair into cold Icelandic weather. Person opened our door in the middle of the night...!? All in a one night stay

Location, price and inclusive breakfast

Reviewed 19 november, 2021

Made my original reservation through Booking.com and when my flight provider changed my flight to travel out a day earlier I couldn't find the extra night. I decided to email the hotel explaining my situation and the matter was very easily resolved. I stayed for 6 nights. My room was on the first floor overlooking the main street and whilst there was a bit of evening bar noise it didn't go on too late or disturb my sleep. The openable section of the window was small and high up so be careful you don't turn the thermostat up too high on the radiator or you might find it difficult to cool down. Reception is covered 24 hours a day and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Housekeeping visit the room every day to make beds, empty bins and provide fresh towels. Breakfast being included is a bonus and is continental with no hot option. There is bread, meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, vegetables, fruits, yoghurts, cereals, cakes/biscuits, preserves, tea/coffee, fruit juice and water. Staff work tirelessly ensuring that everything is well stocked and well presented no matter time you eat. Breakfast is served 7-10am in the Scandinavian Restaurant that also opens on an evening for dinner (guests receive a 20% discount card). The room was compact and clean with a nice bathroom. A safe was available in the wardrobe free of charge. There was a small fridge and kettle provided. Ask at reception for any cups. Advisable to take your own tea/coffee as the prices in the shops are eye-watering. I had soft comfortable twin beds and a flat screen tv. A Wi-fi code is provided on arrival that gives a good connection but if travelling from the UK you could easily just use your data bundle. I used the telephone in the room to make several local calls for tours and there was no extra charge for this. You get a slight smell of sulphur when turning on the shower so the supply must be geo-thermal but on the plus side the hot water is plentiful and never runs out!! I decided to buy some bottled water from the local corner shop for the kettle etc. I simply took the bottle down at breakfast and asked the ladies to fill it up from their drinking water supply which they were happy to do. If you are arranging a transfer from the airport or doing tour pick-ups the nearest bus stop is No 6 "The Culture House". The hotel in very competitively priced and without a doubt its main selling point has to be the location. It is situated centrally with all local attractions easily accessible on foot.
