Great location, poor value

Konsukat is located a few steps from old town. Rooms are nice if quite small for the price. Staff seemed to struggle with English which was very unusual for Iceland. Better value to be found in same area.

Ivar was an excellent receptionist

Reviewed 21 june, 2022

Ivar at Reykjavik Consulate Hotel by Hilton did a terrific job helping me and my wife above and beyond the call of duty. He calmly found a solution to our problem at odd hours (2 am). On June 3-4 2022, this American tourist couple arrived at Reykjavik airport late, originally from Bergen. We were tired having travelled for 20+ h (flight cancellation). We were picked up by a Viking receptionist at the airport and sent to this hotel arriving at 2 am, June 4. Avar found no room reservation under our names, and the hotel was full. He comforted us. He called adjacent hotels but found no room either. Eventually he called Hilton Reykjavik Nordica, which actually had a room reserved under our name. We all then realized that the Viking receptionist sent us to this wrong Hilton and then left. Iva called a taxi for us and helped us load luggage into the taxi. All the time he never complained and never said something like “this is not my fault/job”, which we heard many times from others on June 3 and 4. Thank you, Ivar.

Very good hotel in perfect location.

Very good hotel in perfect location for Reykjavik. Rooms a wee bit small but clean, well decorated and comfortable beds. Lovely lounge and bar for relaxing with free early evening drinks. Good buffet breakfast included ( best gluten free bread we found in Iceland available on request) .staff very friendly although could do with more reception staff at busier times.

Beautiful and historic

It is hard to find any fault with a Curio Collection hotel and this one was no exception. We had a lovely stay - great room, very central location, nice happy hour and lobby bar area. We also took advantage of the spa area and got in a good soak and an hour of book reading in the tranquil space in the basement. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was a standard offering and but also included mimosas.

Mixed experience

Reviewed 2 june, 2022

The Konsulat is a nice hotel with a good location, but the ongoing construction across the very narrow street really made this a less than pleasant stay for us. We paid an astoundingly high rate for a suite, which looked out on scaffolding and a pile of lumber. There was construction noise throughout the day—hammering and drilling— making it impossible for us to rest. The rooms themselves are nice—in fact, the hotel website makes them look much darker and more somber than they actually are. We were afraid that parking would be a problem, but the nearby garage is easy to find. I was disappointed by the removed, businesslike manner of the front desk staff after reading so many raves about their helpfulness here on TripAdvisor. No one seemed particularly interested in our experience as guests. It’s too bad about the construction—it will most likely be a very charming street when it’s done—but meanwhile, it was not the luxury experience we hoped for.
