Such a lovely B&B!

The Philip W. Smith Bed & Breakfast is an absolutely lovely place with gorgeous wood inlay floors (the original owner/builder made his fortune in lumber according Jill, the home’s very knowledgeable current proprietress), lovely tiffany windows, and charming dining and lodging rooms. My daughter and I stayed in the first floor room that was the home’s original dining room, and it was so pretty with lovely wood paneling around the doors and ceiling, a beautiful large tiffany window, and perfectly chosen furnishings. I was able to see several of the upstairs rooms as well and they too were very nice. The breakfast was delicious with the best orange juice I’ve had in years. If we should ever make our way back to Indiana, we’ll definitely stay here again. One additional note: the town of Richmond IN is FULL of gorgeous old Victorian houses that could be refurbished into veritable palaces, much like the Smith B&B. There are also charming cottages from the early 1900s. In a way, it reminds me of Savannah GA in that there are so many lovely historic properties. If historic preservation/renovation is your thing, (and you’re lucky enough to be retired or to telework full time), you should definitely check it out.

Sometimes we find that staying in a B & B can be cheaper than a hotel. One of the nice things about a B&B is the delicious breakfast. The breakfast was very good. The bedroom was very nice, however, with the room being quite small it was difficult getting out of one side of the bed that was only a few inches from the window. The room and the rest of the house was beautifully decorated.

We spent one night at this B&B while traveling through the area. We had booked the sister property (to get use of jacuzzi tub) but were moved to Philip W Smith due to the other in the process of bring sold I believe. We pick B&B's with certain features, one being front porches or patio's, so finding the front porch furniture in such run down condition that it couldn't be used comfortably was a disappointment. We were in the first floor room which had beautiful antiques and was clean but the bathroom was definitely not up to the standard for this price range B&B. Our internet would not stay connected either which was a tad frustrating. The hosts were pleasant and we met some very nice people while staying there. Possibly another room would have suited us better.
If you like Victorian architecture and décor then you will enjoy this property in Richmond

We spent one evening in this beautiful Victorian home in September. Kris, the owner was helpful and informative about the town of Richmond and its rich local history. The breakfast Kris prepared for us was delicious and quite hearty.
Our room was comfortable and quiet with a lovely claw foot tub but lacked a full shower and that was a minus for us. The glass french doors were beautiful but definitely minimized the bathrooms privacy.
We liked the refrigerator and coffee area in the hallway for convenience but it detracted from the decor by creating a little more clutter in an already cramped hallway.
Parking is available on the side street as there is not a dedicated parking area for the house.
If you like Victorian architecture and decor then you will enjoy this property. We found it a little bit claustrophobic and cluttered for our taste but it was a pleasant one night stay.

In town for a night out with girlfriends. We were met by Jill, the owner and perfect hostess. Our rooms were ready but we enjoyed chatting with her so much, she kind of seemed like one of our group! The mansion is filled with gorgeous antiques and rich history. The rooms were immaculate. We had rooms 3, 5, and 4. Each had a private bath that was more than adequate. The stained glass windows were a treat when waking up to see the sunshine so colorfully into the rooms. The beds were quite comfortable and each had a TV, although some of us more technically challenged ladies couldn’t figure out how to change the channels with 2 remote controls involved. We should’ve asked so our fault. Internet was free and quite fast. Our breakfast was adequate and very tasty. Jill helped us locate a nearby Amish market south of Fountain City and even the Kitchen Aide factory store across the line in Ohio. We hit both before heading home. She recommended the Olde Richmond Inn for dinner downtown and this place was a treat unto itself. Parking was on the street but given the proximately to the entry, it was just fine. This is an area of older mansions and we felt totally safe. No issues but I understand there is limited parking out back. We couldn’t have been happier with our experience there and would highly recommend for short or longer term stays.
