Greatly appreciate the honesty of the desk clerk

When we arrived to the hotel the desk clerk made sure we understood that the wi-fi was out due to a problem that Comcast was having. She offered that we could cancel with no penalty even though it was 9 PM and after the free cancellation period. We happened to need wi-fi that evening and so made the decision to stay elsewhere. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE the clerk's flexibility and pointing out the sign that was on the check-in desk and making sure we understood it. Too many time people gloss over such signs. A BIG THUMB's UP for this hotel.

When checking it, a sign on the entrance stated masks are required. We put on our masks and walked in ( both of us are vaccinated ). The front desk clerk's mask was hanging off her ear but she did put it on when we approached, most likely she heard my wife say "she's not wearing a mask". As we were checking in several people passed by coming in, going out and one was checking out, all not wearing a mask. So why bother posting the sign? After receiving our key, going up to the room and opening the door a waft of cigarette odor hit us. We reserved a king non smoking and the clerk acknowledged that as she checked us in. Returning to the front desk, explained the odor, the clerk gave us a new room. This one didn't smell of smoke. I noticed there weren't any bath towels in the room, so as we were walking toward the elevator to go for dinner the desk clerk was coming toward us and asked if that room was better. We stated it didn't smell of smoke, but could someone bring us bath towels. She told us it was just here and could we pick them up on our way back in?? I noticed she was holding a spray bottle and some rags in her hands which I reflected on after we got back from dinner. There's a sign on the mirror stating 'housekeeping available upon request" and that the room has been cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant with special attention to high touch areas. Great! Unfortunately it seemed housekeeping didn't clean all the other areas or the housekeeping is the desk clerk with the spray bottle and rags! The bathroom was disgusting, The toilet rim had urine stains and cigarette ashes, there was hair in the shower and sink. Thank god we had lysol wipes. After traveling we just wanted to settle in. At least the bed was clean and comfortable, except for the pillows. This is the worst hotel room we ever had. If this hotel was in my portfolio I would be embarrassed. We have stayed at several other Choice Hotel brands as we travel to our main destination and by far, this is the worst and doubtful we would ever stay at a Sleep Inn again. For almost $100 the value was horrible, but then again paying anything for this room would not have been a good value.
Great value in Richmond

We enjoyed our stay at the Sleep Inn. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is in a very convenient location. The room was small but adequate. The shower door could have used a more thorough cleaning, but everything else was great! If you’re looking for a basic, budget-friendly hotel in Richmond, this place is perfect!
Good Hotel But Very Small Rooms

This is a good Sleep Inn.... clean and at a good location. My only complaint is the rooms are extremely small even for one person. But there is nothing much the hotel can do about that. Very close to stores and restaurants... walking distance.
Why was the third time not the Charm?

My SO and I have now stayed here three times I think - I can check. .I have stayed here before mostly several years ago. After taking the room, one on the second floor, where we have stayed before, my SO noted that at least all of the floor had not been vacumed completely as there were small pieces of paper on the floor between the bed and the window. More inspection found some more which we reported prior to going to dinner. After dinner we found the rug in much better shape. Shower time came and we both noticed two things. First the drain had something in it that was not friendly. Second, neither of us thought that there were not towels and wash cloths for two people to shower. The same was true for coffee in the morning. One big no-no - the wall socket over the desk seems to have a short. Please check it out. We want to return. /
