Dated apartment

Reviewed 27 december, 2019

We just left the hotel. Night staff is friendly, but the room is very, very dated. I confess regretting my hotel choice, it was inexpensive but you get what you pay. The dinner buffet (R$25 all you can eat) is ok and handy, but if you are not as tired as we were, dining out would be a better option.

Uplifting

A lovely choice of hotel. I had lost the Card, the room was reserved with and could´nt remember the code for my other Card, but tecnical skilled members of the staff, managed to lead through my payment anyway. Otherwise I had been without af place to stay. I liked my room and the shower. The food was ok as well. The placement of the hotel gave me possibility to explore the seesights of Lapa and go out in bars at night. There is a policecar parked upthere in the street all night. I could not go to far away because of the people in the neighbourhood, that wanted something of me. Computers and free, fast internet. The staff had a good attitude.

Don't you ever stay here please!!!

Reviewed 13 january, 2015

Situated at the most dangerous area in Rio de Janeiro, a lot of homeless at the street, no transportation, no wifi or wasn't working, the rooms are in a super bad condition, bad customer service and they don't refund your money, the bad experience that I ever had, I didn't have so many choices since I purchased my hotel stay in last minute for the World Cup, but even thought they didn't return my money I just choose to pay double instead of staying at this disgusting place!!! If you want to go to hell go there.... very disappointed

Tough location

Reviewed 25 november, 2014

Hotel is in the district of Lapa, and right adjacent to the famous Lapa steps. However, a "tough" neighbourhood which can be intimidating (albeit relatively safe) at night. Hotel itself is very tired, and don't believe the description of the restaurant (clean, but very limited". Personally would upgrade to another hotel in a better area.

Clean, relatively modern budget hotel

Reviewed 6 october, 2014

I came to Vina del Mar after spending one horrible night in the hotel next door, Hotel Americano, which was run down and disgusting and had BED BUGS. After staying in Hotel Americano, Vina del Mar felt like the Ritz Carlton, which is strange because the price is comparable and they are apparently under the same management. It's not luxurious, but it's clean and the rooms and lobby are updated. The bathrooms could use an update, but they are clean. I felt a million times more comfortable here than at the other hotel. Marcos at the front desk spoke English well and was very professional and helpful. The breakfast is not the best, but it's not the worst either. There was always coffee/tea, juice, fruit, cakes/pastries and scrambled eggs. The area is a little sketchy. It is walking distance to the clubs and nightlife in Lapa, but I probably wouldn't stay in the area again personally. There were a decent amount of derelicts on the street asking us for beer or money. For the price, Vina del Mar is a very good choice if you must stay in Lapa.
