Used points for this overnight stay so can't really complain. Hotel and room were nice. No problems. My only comment would be how small the pool is - basically a large bathtub! Staff were friendly and helpful.

We walked in and were faced with the whole mask thing whether you have been vaccinated or not. Cute place, nice bar and helpful desk clerk. Get into the hallways on our floor and the carpet looks dirty and stained. Hair on the bathroom floor and the bathroom sink. Several maids were in the hallway with no one wearing a masks. Ok, then why do I have to wear one. The rest of the room was nice, one of the remotes didn’t work. Went downstairs for ‘breakfast’ and it was microwaved sandwiches or cold cereal. They did have instant oatmeal…ok easy enough. Mine cooked over onto the glass plate. In trying to clean it I told the woman working there that we needed access to a sink. She said and I quote “We have lots of sinks, we don’t need one down here”. I just looked at her and showed her the microwave plate and said maybe you would like to clean this then. I was absolutely floored by her response. So rude! I love bananas but all of theirs were mostly brown so no thanks on that as well.

The office chair in my room is broken. This is something that I would normally mention to the front desk on my way out, which is what I did the last two times I stayed in this room. I travel for business and stay at the same hotels and even the same room if I can arrange it. This room is strategically located for my needs. Very frustrating and disappointing.
Roanoke Cab is terrific!

Attractive, welcoming. I stayed here because I’m half of a Marriott Rewards family. We are either using points, or gathering points on trips. It was attractive, with new looking rooms and decor, super comfortable mattress, sheets and pillows. But I encountered one desk clerk who was incapable of helping me arrange a ride to the train station for early the morning after check-in. I later found out in my own that Roanoke is just small enough, and the workforce during Covid limited enough that securing a ride a mile and a half to the Amtrak station was not easily accomplished at such “short notice”. I was fearful of using Uber since I have often experienced being “dropped” by drivers in other cities and thought there might not be alternate drivers available. Cab companies didn’t answer, or didn’t return messages. Finally, I called Roanoke Cab. The operator told me “in a town line this” ie, small, “people arrange rides months in advance “. I was immediately sorry I hadn’t broken my Marriott habit and sprung for the Roanoke Hotel and Conference Center a short walk to the train depot. The Roanoke Cab offered me a ride at 5:15am for a 10 minute ride to catch a 6:30am train. I baulked at the prospect. She invited me to call back if I hadn’t found a better alternative. Which, after tentative setting up an Uber, and wondering what would happen if I got “dropped”, I did. The Roanoke Cab operator (why didn’t I get her name?!) hemmed and haw and worked on her computer until telling me she had set up a prepaid Uber for me for 5:55am. Additionally she told me to call her at 5:45am if I hadn’t received a text from her by then indicating the driver’s license plate number snd car model. Having this extra layer of assuredness was a big comfort. Although I barely slept, I called her at 5:47. She picked up immediately y to old me she was watching “Andrew’s” car on the Uber app, assuring me he would arrive by 5:57. At 5:56, Andrew rolled up to the Springhill Marriott, the operator asked me to check the license plate number, reminded me the driver had already been paid. I climbed in and made the train. So, this is less a review of Springhill Suites than it is a suggestion that, if traveling by train to Roanoke, book the Roanoke Hotel instead. And by all means, rely on Roanoke Cab’s exemplary service for your transportation needs.
