Great Location, Service, and Comfort

My wife and I stayed one night while en route from Ohio to Berkshires MA. Plenty of onsite parking with good lighting at night. I chose the hotel primarily because the Genesee Riverway Trail is directly off the hotel property and, after a seven hour drive, we wanted to have a nice walk to a brewpub approximately three miles north of the hotel. Front desk service was expeditious and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable bed, excellent HVAC. The refrigerator made ice quickly. Our fourth floor room facing the river provided a great view of the Genesee River. The hotel's breakfast was great (compared to other places we have stayed during COVID) with scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, french toast sticks, sausage, and a nice selection of cold items (hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese with fruit, and yogurt)...a nice break from the 'grab and go' bags many hotels are still using. We noticed no odors as articulated by another recent reviewer. Yes, the stove top burners in our room had some residual spillage from a prior occupant - such instance wouldn't occur if individuals acted responsibly while staying at hotels. Knowing the complete mess that some leave hotel team members to clean, our priority is clean bed and bathroom - last I looked we didn't live in a perfect world. Some nicks did exist on furniture - but no different than nicks on pieces of my home furniture - if folks want perfect furniture, they should probably stay at home in their glass house.
a weak 3 due to condition of hotel

I would do a two if it were not for the fact that our suite was clean, the location is pleasant, parking is easy and the view of the river and the hotel's deck looking over the river were just fine. I will address the price issue later. What was not agreeable: 1. the pervasive odor, reminiscent of onions and garlic. The odor was in the lobby, the halls and the suite. With all three windows open after 1 1/2 days we got the rooms aired out. But even the bed linen seemed to have caught the odor. 2. Almost all the furniture was nicked in our suite. If this hotel was open in 2008, nothing has been upgraded to our experience. 3. Picky but the burner plates on the stove were encrusted with burn. As new burner plates can be purchased, this was not acceptable, looking as they did dirty. 4. Cost the Staybridge was $71 more per night than a two bedrooom suite at the Residence Inn in Syracuse which offers clean, fresh smelling rooms and no nicks on the furniture. I don't know why this big cost difference because the Staybridge as we experienced it, was more like a budget hotel.

This is my favorite hotel in the Rochester area when visiting RIT. This is the second time I’ve stayed here and look forward to coming back. Great location right on the river with nice walking paths around. Great breakfast included with better than typical hotel quality items (had empanadas, eggs, ham, cut fruit, Chobani yogurt, etc.).
4 night stay to tour Upstate NY

Great hotel, great service. This hotel is right on the river with endless walking/biking paths right out the back door. It is tucked off the main rode, away from traffic noise. The inside is clean bright and modern. Great breakfast with full selection. Hot and cold buffet selection and fresh fruit. Only issue was that there is a small selection of restaurants nearby-walking distance to a Subway and a Chinese restaurant. Other nearby restaurants are 1.5 miles away. During our 10 day tour of NY we stayed at various hotel chains, mom and pops and a boutique hotel, and Staybridge was consistently the best for- space, cleanliness, affordability, service, location and breakfast!
Customer service severely lacking

If I could give -10 stars I would do so. This hotel, allegedly under new management, needs a big dose of reality on how to deal with disgruntled customers when things go wrong.. We booked this hotel on Expedia after reading extensive positive reviews. On the afternoon we checked in, all seemed good. Then an hour later, the toilet broke. The maintenance person, who had left the premises two hours earlier, allegedly was summoned, but we finally learned that he would not return. We asked for another room and were told there were none available, but we were welcome to use the toilet in the lobby. Unacceptable answer. When we asked the clerk at the front desk if he could recommend another hotel or help us find another alternative at that late date and hour, he suffered from an inexcusable case of “not my job.” No, there are no other hotels in this area. No I can’t help you - I only work here. He clearly failed Customer Service 101. We finally found another hotel (yes, there were plenty in the area) and arranged a refund for this one. But until this hotel works on its customer service and its availability of maintenance personnel for the inevitable after-hours emergencies, we’d recommend you stay far away.
