Don't do it!!

Possibly the worst VFM Hotel we've ever stayed in. Staff rude. Room was disgusting. 35 degrees outside and the air con was less effective than a toddler chewing an ice cube.
The mastic on the bathroom was absolutely vile. Put on with a trowel, mouldy & dirty.
Mirror cracked - sink plug didn't hold water.
The aircon unit contained a pool of stagnant filthy water full of dead insects.
I will try and post the vidoes I took.
Staff defended a complaint by saying they offered us another room but that's not true. We require twin beds for medical reasons, which they provided in the first room. The room they offered had a double bed. They refused to move twin beds in there & said it was the only other room & the Hotel was full.
It probably was a nice Hotel once and & feel for the leisure industry, but the problems we had were fixable and there's no need for the attitude.

We have just returned from our trip to Rome staying at the Excel which was ok for the 2 nights we were there, but not sure I would say it was 4*?? It looked grand enough from the outside when we arrived, probably stunning in the summer months but needs a bit of tidying now. The staff were very welcoming and polite once they found our reservation but then we got our room ☹️. I would probably compare it to a students quarters unfortunately. Very very basic. No doors on wardrobe, just an old desk and table, no bedside tables just wonky shelves that if you put anything on them they slid off, no kettle or cups, but we did ask and they did provide!! Bathroom was antiquated!! I was ok getting in and out of the shower but my husband is a little larger and he just had room in there. No where to put any toiletries we had to keep the shower door open and put things on the toilet seat which was too close to the shower cubicle it was ridiculous and any other bits on the sink as there were no shelves for anything. Well I nearly died when I saw the hairdryer it was out of the Middle Ages!! Who has hairdryers like that nowadays?? Nice enough breakfast bit basic but if you like pastries then you will be ok. Too far away from everything tho. Probably ok if you know how to navigate their bus and trains to link with each other to get to places as they were very good, thank god we had an app to help otherwise I'm not sure if you would know where to go on your own?? Shame really, as I said nice people but it did feel as if we were put in the servants quarters......no view just looked out onto a bank of conifer trees and they weren't busy they could have tried to put us somewhere else for the 2 nights it wouldn't have hurt them then they would have got a better review.
Could be brilliant but still great value

We stayed for 3 nights half board whilst exploring Rome. The staff are incredibly welcoming and happy to offer advice. The rooms are compact but comfortable and the beds were fine. Room was cleaned daily, but the decor could do with refreshing. The gluten free meal options were limited (no second course was gluten free so just pasta) but what we had was beautifully tasty. A lot of people seemed to be enjoying the fresh pizzas but they weren't available to us. The gluten free breakfast was just a long life roll and Madeline cake which weren't great, especially compared to the plentiful selection of normal breakfast options that looked lovely. Parking around the hotel could be a little difficult if arriving back late, but we did manage to get a space eventually each day. The hotel is a little out of the way and a car is definitely advisable. If you want to explore the city centre, drive 10 minutes to one of the line A metro stops and park up. You can get a 24 he travel card for about €7 which will take you all around Rome, I wouldn't advise driving within the ZTL filled centre.
historical hospital building

A little far from the center of Rome. It was a historical hospital building, they turned it into a hotel. The garden, the view is beautiful. Rooms are big enough, clean, large bathroom. The minibar was working well. There is a very large supermarket nearby. There was no Internet. There were various pies for breakfast. Overall I was satisfied.
I hate to complain, but...

This hotel is well worn, and the staff is none to friendly. Perhaps they have a captive audience from the medical school next door? The rooms are dull and sadly appointed. e.g., the wood furniture in our bedroom was old, ill-fitted dormroom furniture from the 50s or 60s, and the bathroom was tiny. Meager air conditioning and even worse internet service. Many hotel guests complained there was no way to access their email, and the staff merely shrugged. The breakfast buffet was large, but much of the food was rather tasteless. OK in quantity, but very disappointing to the palate. How can baked ham taste bad? Well, it did. Same with most of the cakes and pastries. The staff was generally very rude and unaccommodating, too. On top of it all, getting to this hotel is very tough. It is set off the main road about 2 blocks, and there's only a small sign at the street.. The bus drivers have no idea where it is, nor did most taxi drivers. Wouldn't stay there again unless we had to
