We drove to the hotel. It has parking. The front of the hotel has some stairs. The young man at the desk took all of our bags to our room. It is a nice place being redone, so some of the areas are dusty with foot prints. The room was nice and big. We had a room on the top floor. It was the second week of October, so it had some very chilly nights. When I asked the desk about the heat, they advised me it wasn't turned on yet. This is common in Italy. Outside of the 3rd floor is a very large terrace with comfortable seating to catch the sunrise.
Travelling solo but joining a group later on. Very poor services. Noisy place

The splendid staff of The Cross Hotel

Coming into Rome on an evening flight from Vienna, I walked out on the first hotel reservation. Night had now fallen, and we visited three more hotel prospects. None satisfactory. Then we found The Cross Hotel online, called reception, and were advised that everything inside is newly renovated and that the air conditioning works beautifully. When we arrived on Via Statilia we were confronted with a looming, grand fin-de-siecle palazino of imposing design. Check-in with the receptionist was conducted in English and proceeded quickly. All claims made on the telephone were in reality even better than expected. A very attractive rate was offered, and I am now into the third week of my sojourn at The Cross Hotel as I am searching for an apartment to rent in the surrounding San Giovanni area. The staff is cordial, articulate, efficient give special attention to the cleanliness and prompt servicing of the rooms, generally providing fresh linens daily. Signore Earnesto, one of the receptionists, even helped in a crisis when I inadvertently tossed out a prized utensil inside of a pizza box. He called room service staff and found out that the trash had already been taken to the big bin behind the hotel. Then he rushed with me directly to the bins where he and another staff member found the pizza box, and I was able to retrieve the cutter which I purchased in Memphis back in 1973. I was so relieved and grateful. Gustavo Nelson

I went to Rome for a week some years ago (2003) and they were renovating the hotel. Even though a lot was going on, the staff was friendly and attentive to questions I asked. The room was small, but then again, I just needed a place to sleep, shower & shave and the room and bathroom (nice marble bathroom, with a toilet, bidet and standing shower. The AC worked, bed was comfy and room was clean. It worked for me. I’d stay there again, when I return to Rome.
Nice and simple

The hotel itself was average. There was 4 of us in the room, so four beds and not much room, but enough! The view from the room was lovely- lots of windows and a platform you could step out onto. There was a balcony on our level that you could sit on which was lovely, and another one on the top level which was very big. The wifi was extremely fast and the breakfast was AMAZING! It was a very good location with restaurants near by and the train station was super close. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
