Hotel Madison is considered the "smartest" hotel in the group: opened in 1987, it is an easy and convenient solution for "hit and run" travellers staying in Rome for a short while, maybe for just one night. Its excellent location, right beside Termini Station, is ideal for travellers arriving by train, but also for those who, arriving by air, use the (low cost) shuttle bus for transfers to and from Rome's two airports. Within easy reach, the Umberto I Polyclinic, La Sapienza University, the National Research Centre (CNR), the National Health Institute (Istituto Superiore di Sanita'), The High ...More details

I stayed here for one night in order to catch the early morning Leonardo express train to the airport. Very clean room, affordable price, nothing fancy and breakfast was included in the price. When I mentioned that I’d leave early before breakfast was served, the kind receptionist said that they would have my breakfast packed and ready before I leave. Safe but not the greatest area to stay in when visiting Rome, too crowded but very convenient when you are catching early morning trains.

The location was good, it was right across from the train station. It was convenient then. But I couldn't sleep well because of the smoking smell. I don't know where it came from, we closed our windows tight, it must have been from the central A/C? I'm not sure. But as a non-smoker, it bothered me quite a lot and I couldn't sleep well while I was there. I wouldn't recommend anyone because of that.
Bait and switch?

After a very rough trip getting to Rome, we arrived exhausted on Oct. 16, 2019 at this hotel only to be told they were closed. They shuffled us off to a hotel owned by their group which was of far less quality and, we later discovered - after our credit card had already been charged, the other hotel rented for far less in a much less desirable area. We felt we had fallen victim to a bait and switch scam and wondered if they'd just overbooked the hotel. Reading the other reviews, it appears they really did have a problem. It would have been nice to have been notified ahead of time. The other hotel we ended up at was terrible and far from the metro.

As soon as we got to this hotel we had problems. We requested two single beds but there was only one bed. We were offered another room but it was awful so settled for what we had. The mangers attitude was- I don’t care! Shower terrible and hard to regulate. Mini bar free; of course, because there is nothing in it other than water and that is not replenished!!! Couldn’t unlock door on our last day. Went to reception twice with card to no avail. Maintenance finally got called to fix. No friendliness given. Bed was comfortable and hotel is across the road from train station. Breakfast good but no fresh fruit. Other than location I can’t recommend.

Arrived on Friday 18 October 2019. Advised by the staff at reception that the hotel had been closed down by the authorities due to non-compliance with fire regulations. No prior notification received from either the hotel or Booking.com. As a result had to try and find accommodation at zero notice in Rome!!
