Excellent place and host

Reviewed 20 august, 2019

Excellent place just outside Rome. Quiet and cozy. Clean and well handled. Wonderful host who will help you in anyway (I had a flat tire, and the host helped me getting the repair done. Easy to get to Rome - if you have a car to get to the town - to far to walk. The town, Monterotondo, is not overflown with turists, but has good places to get what you need.

Rustic style next to the capital

Reviewed 1 january, 2018

At this Agriturismo you can experience the beauty of the italian country side, sleep in the old farmer houses and enjoy the city with just a short drive. It is best suited for families that need extra room, a pool, a garden, etc for kids. All these are extremely hard to find close to Rome. I suggest a walk in the Marcigliana park, you can access at km 19 of Via Salaria and drive a bit before continue walking.

Rome away from Rome

Reviewed 13 july, 2017

We chose this place as our base for Rome as we wanted some peace and quiet away from the city. We got it! Fonte di Papa is a beautiful, relaxed farm with a lovely swimming pool and Sergio, the most helpful, kind man in the world running the show. The apartment was exactly what we needed, we could cook for ourselves which was handy given the relatively remote location. As other guests have noted it is a reasonable walk along a very busy road to get to the train station. We got ourselves a tame taxi driver named Alfredo who was similarly helpful and picked us up and dropped us off nearly daily. We would definitely stay again as the hustle of Rome can be quite wearing and having this solitude is absolutely worth it.

Christmas in Italy

This place, once found was amazing! If coming from airport, you take the train strait to monterotondo station. Don't listen to those rushing you to take a cab! Took about 45 minutes. However, plan accordingly. We had no clue where to walk, and it was dark when we arrived. Luckily, there was a very kind gentlemen that called fonte di papa and he picked us up at station. As far as location wise if you have no car, and are touring, this spot is far! But, once you understand how to get around on public transport it gets easier. The walk from the farm, to train station is lengthy. 30-40 minute walk. Defiantly not a safe walk for children because you have to walk along the busy road. Going "out of our way" for a different experience was definitely worth it. Service received at fonte di papa was amazing. Our little cottage was perfect, and for the price during winter months you cannot beat it! Clean, plenty of storage, and you can walk the farm grounds and view the horses. We made friends with the dogs on the property. A very "homey" feeling. We were given a loaf of bread, Nutella, and jelly packages. As well as cookies, milk, and juice for breakfast during our stay. Keep in mind if you are visiting during winter months that this place is old, and gets cold! The wall heaters took awhile to warm up. We walked to the local grocery store, and there is also a great bakery nearby and we cooked our own little Christmas dinner and stayed in the cottage for the holiday. Was picture perfect. For traveling tips if you are traveling back and forth to Rome. Take train to Roma tiburtina, then take metro to termini, or the other metro on other side of Rome. With our daily walk, and travel it would take less than 2 hours to get to Rome. We were on no ones watch but our own, and ended up enjoying the small travel, and stopped at places along the way. From monterotondo station (where fonte di papa is) you can get pretty much anywhere. We also traveled to Florence and stayed 1 night up there, leaving our belongings at the cottage. The public transportation system through Italy is so helpful! Giving this beautiful stay, and welcoming people a 4 out of 5. The only reason not being a 5 was the long walk, which we came to get used too after a few days. And the restaurant pizzerias near by having weird hours, closing early or opening late.

Small and friendly famely owned place with an relaxed atmosphere. The appartment we had was spacius and one of the better of many we haved tried. Friendly staff, very helpfull. Only downside was the moskitos even though all doors and windows are well protected. Bring some anti-stuff like candles or so. But really, this was minor compared to our overall experience. Great value. Would love to come back.
