Not a very pleasant stay.

Where to start? Oh, I know...a non-smoking room means nothing if the owners dad is smoking non-stop in the room down the hall. Disgusting! And hey, you know what would have been awesome to wash off the stale smoke smell? Hot water! A little bit of hot water would have really improved our showers. A working hairdryer would have been nice too...just for the heat. Whatever, we're in Rome. Be happy right? We locked our room and went sightseeing, only to return to an unlocked room. Apparently the cleaning lady (owner's mom?) didn't feel the need to fully close or lock the door when she was done. Finally when checking out, we learned that the website information about accepting credit cards was inaccurate - good thing we had some cash on hand. It was also pretty hard to communicate with the owner's parents, who live on site and smoke a lot, to voice our concerns because they don't speak any English, and only a little French (the owner was only available at check-in). I must add that the bed was pretty comfortable but... Did I mention the smell of stale cigarette smoke in the air? If you; like the smell of stale smoke, enjoy ice cold showers, have no hair, leave your belongings unsecured, can speak Italian, carry enough cash and enjoy a comfy bed, this is the place for you!
This is note the place in the pictures...something shady going on

We went to the address....it was nothing like the great review.s...didn't even look like the place in the pictures.....like maybe they took someone else pictures and reviews and made their own web page! This is not the place that the reviews show with all the antique's and memorabilia, Really it looked like a flop house.... we got there late and had no choice but to stay since we were flying out of Rome in the early morning. The man who let us in looked like a drunk, the room he took us to had holes in the wall and the cheap little lamp shades were torn, bed cover dirty. Some guy knocked on our door and gave me two plastic cups for water (after putting his finger in the top one pulling off the stack). Of course we did not sleep but waited for daybreak and went to the train station hours early. Really this is not right and someone needs to check this out......thank God we didn't have a week booked because we would have not gotten a refund !

We enjoyed our they at the B&B very much! The location is perfect, just 2 min to the Metro station and 10 min to Termini station. There are two really nice and cozy guest rooms and one shared bathroom in a seperate hallway of the owner's flat. The bathroom has a big shower and was allways clear. Also our room was cleaned every day and we got new towels. The rooms are located to the backyard so it wasn't noisy from the street. Our room was pretty spaceous and we had a big bed, a TV (we never used it), a small desk, a fan and enough space to store our clothes. The owners are a very friendly old couple even if they don't speak english. They were very helpful and we could communicate in french. Breakfast was includet and was offered in a small bar on the other site of the street. So we got very nice coffee every morning and baked goods (typical italian breakfast). We would definitely recommend this place, it felt like home and was way cheaper than a hotel!
Simple and Nice

The location was fantastic. Just a 5 minutes walk from the nearest metro station and the city bus stops right in front of the door. There is a grocery shop opposite the hostel and a few places to have a good meal. The room was located on the 5th floor. Thus we enjoyed the peace and quiet during our stay. Although the room came with shared bathroom, only 2 rooms in the units shared the bathroom. Thus it is almost like your personal toilet. In addition, the bathroom is also very clean. Overall, the rooms were very spacious, clean and had a place to hang clothes for drying. The room/toilet is cleaned everyday. The owner stayed in the next building and can be contacted at any time. He is very nice and helpful. He even gave safety tips to us on our first day, taught us a bit of Italian and was very very friendly. What could be improved is maybe to allow baggage to be kept at the hostel as the check out is by 10am. The kitchen facility could be improved as well. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there and I highly recommend the hostel.
Don't Stay Here

My daughter and I spent three long, hot, smoke-filled, noisy nights at the Vacanze Romane. The older couple are not very friendly. The woman does not speak English; the man seems to speak some English, but is grumpy most of the time. Their son was nice. He spoke good English and was there often. The woman smokes and the smoke fills the apartment. No air conditioning, no fans. Rome gets very hot. We had to leave our window and door open at night to get any airflow which made our room very noisy because the window opened to a courtyard to which lots of other apartments opened onto also. The woman completely rearranged our belongings while we were out and left our door open every morning after she was in there. Checkout time is 10:30 a.m., but when we returned after 9:50 a.m. to finish packing and move our suitcases out of the room, we found our suitcases packed and setting right inside the front door. It took four different keys to get into our room, but since she always left the door to our room open every morning after we left, you only needed three keys. The toilet and bidet are inside the shower stall. Very strange! The breakfast voucher was for a place across the street. The voucher only covered one drink and one roll per person. The cappuccino was very good though. I definitely do not recommend this place. We had to pay for three nights whether we stayed or not, otherwise we would have left.
