We visited Rothenburg for a weekend and booked a stay at the Goldene Rose after finding it on Booking.com. We ended up booking directly on the hotel's website instead, though. We had our dog with us and were enticed by this hotel's fenced in area. Check in was easy with the automated check in machine in the entrance. We were upgraded to a bigger suite which was a fun surprise. The room was spacious and comfortable. The location was perfect, too! Parking was a bit of a mystery. The website mentioned parking available, but we couldn't figure it out so we ended up parking outside the city walls in one of the town's parking areas. No big deal! The hotel had a breakfast option to add on, but we didn't take it. The breakfast area looked nice, though. We enjoyed having the fenced in area to let our dog walk around off leash for a bit. Downstairs of the hotel there is a fridge with a variety of drinks (wine, beer, etc). Our first day we sat outside with our dog and enjoyed a couple of beers and it was so relaxing.
The only letdown from the hotel was a lack of soap bar and shampoo stocked in the bathroom. It has been awhile since we have traveled in Europe so I can't remember if that is standard in European hotels or maybe just has to do with COVID. But this was a minor issue for us.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Rothenburg!
Comfortable and Reasonable

A nice weekend in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in December 2019 for their Christmas Market for two couples. We wanted to stay within the old/walled city and most/all of the hotels closer to the central market were unavailable, but were happy to find the Goldene Rose - only a short (5 minutes?) walk down the cobblestone street through this incredibly picturesque city.
We booked directly with the hotel via email and followed up to make sure that we had rooms with en suite bathroom.
They had just instituted (or upgraded) their self check-in system when we arrived ... you enter the vestibule and use an ATM-type machine to confirm your reservation, charge your credit card, and get your room key (which also opens the front door) from the dispenser. Hopefully they have upgraded again, because it was not terribly intuitive. Both couples had to get assistance from Marion, our very pleasant Hostess, who fortunately was nearby even though it was outside their normal Front Desk hours. There was an issue with the charges, where we were both double-billed for the breakfast ... it took a fair bit of discussion with Marion, but she made it right.
Large comfortable rooms on the third floor - no elevator, so be prepared to lug your bags up the stairs - but a clean and attractive place to spend a couple of nights at a reasonable price.
Basic breakfast (not automatically included, so check that when making your reservation) with the usual variety of breads, cereals, and cold cuts.
Enjoyable stay in a pretty town

We stayed for one night with our friends in 2 separate rooms. Our friends brought their little dog who was welcomed by Diamond, the French Sheepdog.
Rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast fare was as expected- selection of cold meat, jams, breads and cereals.
Great location just inside the city walls and walking distance to everything.

What a terrific find.
Met by the wonderful owner and diamond the dog. Made to feel welcome straight away.
Our room was in the apartment building in the back garden. It was lovely. Large spacious room with en suite.
A welcome bowl of biscuits for our dog and vlean towels for her too.
Breakfast is modest but very nice and just what we needed.
The views of the city walls were amazing. Still inside the old city but so peaceful. Excellent stuff.
