Comfortable and Reasonable
A nice weekend in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in December 2019 for their Christmas Market for two couples. We wanted to stay within the old/walled city and most/all of the hotels closer to the central market were unavailable, but were happy to find the Goldene Rose - only a short (5 minutes?) walk down the cobblestone street through this incredibly picturesque city. We booked directly with the hotel via email and followed up to make sure that we had rooms with en suite bathroom. They had just instituted (or upgraded) their self check-in system when we arrived ... you enter the vestibule and use an ATM-type machine to confirm your reservation, charge your credit card, and get your room key (which also opens the front door) from the dispenser. Hopefully they have upgraded again, because it was not terribly intuitive. Both couples had to get assistance from Marion, our very pleasant Hostess, who fortunately was nearby even though it was outside their normal Front Desk hours. There was an issue with the charges, where we were both double-billed for the breakfast ... it took a fair bit of discussion with Marion, but she made it right. Large comfortable rooms on the third floor - no elevator, so be prepared to lug your bags up the stairs - but a clean and attractive place to spend a couple of nights at a reasonable price. Basic breakfast (not automatically included, so check that when making your reservation) with the usual variety of breads, cereals, and cold cuts.
Enjoyable stay in a pretty town
We stayed for one night with our friends in 2 separate rooms. Our friends brought their little dog who was welcomed by Diamond, the French Sheepdog. Rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast fare was as expected- selection of cold meat, jams, breads and cereals. Great location just inside the city walls and walking distance to everything.
Very central boutique hotel run by this amazing friendly woman and her diamond (her dog). Very clean rooms. Lovely breakfast with a nice selection. A few minutes away from the Centre. Will return again.
Gorgeous. Peaceful. Friendly
What a terrific find. Met by the wonderful owner and diamond the dog. Made to feel welcome straight away. Our room was in the apartment building in the back garden. It was lovely. Large spacious room with en suite. A welcome bowl of biscuits for our dog and vlean towels for her too. Breakfast is modest but very nice and just what we needed. The views of the city walls were amazing. Still inside the old city but so peaceful. Excellent stuff.
We booked the ‘the Apartment’ As described on the establishments website!- as we were a couple travelling with our 9 year old daughter and we wanted to be all together. We were given 2 separate locked rooms in the guest house neither with a toilet! The toilet was located in the hall. We approached the host Marion - and she was the most unhelpful person you could imagine. She got angry and argued that we got what we booked. And she couldn’t be responsible for what was on sold by another travel company! We explained that our daughter has autism and she simply hadn’t sold us what we ordered. She said I can’t help help you with that! We explained it stated clearly on HER website that it is described as an apartment! False advertising! She was so rude and plain horrible!!! Complete strangers were given keys to our so called apartment and came in unexpectedly and woke our daughter up! They were accessing the room upstairs in our so called family apartment! DO NOT BOOK HERE! Horrible host and service!
