Welcoming Friendly Hotel

Reviewed 29 august, 2018

Very welcoming hotel with friendly and helpful reception staff. We booked at the last minute virtually and paid probably more than normal for an hotel room but then again it was holiday time ! However we ended up with one bedroom and large living room with sofa bed, table and chairs , TV .Very nice and comfy, basic amenities ie fridge kettle and cooker. Underground parking .Although a non smoking residence we were provided with an ashtray to smoke on the outside terrace overlooking the pool and trees which was appreciated. The balconies are so big that it did not affect the neighbors. None of us had problem connecting with the WiFi. We were there only for one night as we had to leave but could have stayed longer as it felt very relaxed, quiet and comfortable. There is a very good restaurant on the beach within walking distance with great sunsets :-) but you need to book or face waiting an hour as we did for a table!

Really great stay, but no free Wi-Fi

Reviewed 25 july, 2018

Stayed for almost a week here with the family. Had a big 3 bedroom apartement next to the restaurant and pool (building 1) which was very spacious and comfortable for two adults with three kids. The only downside was the path to the pool was right outside the porch area but didn't bother us too much. The apartment itself was good and had two showers and two toilets which were plenty for us. The kitchen has the necessary appliances, dishes, dishwasher, etc., but an oven would have been nice. You will still need to go out for the basics like soap for dishes, paper towels, etc. They also have facilities for doing laundry for a price of course. Plenty of activities for the kids without leaving the grounds such as pool, tennis, ping pong, wall tennis, and Pétanque. They also lend you out all the equipment you need for free from the reception which is great. In the area there is a lot to see so the location is great, but you do have to take your car everywhere except the beach right next door. We went to nearby cities in both France and Spain without a hassle or too much traffic. The only thing I didn't like about the place is that we had to pay for Wi-Fi and it was limited to four devices at the same time. This was limiting with laptops, phones, tablets, Kindle's, etc. being a family of 5. I am a frequent traveller and in 2018 expect Wi-Fi to be free everywhere. Other than that the place was great. I recommend it if you come to the area as a family and would be happy to come back.

Everything has to be paid extra

Reviewed 31 august, 2016

The Résidence Iratzia is OK, clean, calm (considering the many families with small children) but you must know that what you pay for your room only covers the room. So OK, you get the bedsheets for free (wow!) but you'll have to carry them to your appartment. You'll have to pay 6€/person for 2 small towels. Internet will cost you 20€/week/per device and you even have to pay to be allowed to watch TV: 30€, no less. You can't even just use the screen to watch your own movies because you won't get the remote control unless you pay. Two rooms means 1 bedroom and 1 living room with a convertible couch. The 2-room option is way too small for 4 adults, it might be OK for a family with small children. You'll have to bring washing liquid and tablets for the dishes and detergent, otherwise cleaning will cost you 56€ for the 2-room appartment. On Saturdays, everybody arrives and leaves at the same time (departure before 10 AM, bedsheets removed and cleaning done) so be prepared to queue. The appartment to the front have Toro Piscine (a very lowd popular entertainment) twice a week and those to the back can enjoy the trains passing by. Ironically, if you chose to stay at the hotel, you wil get for free: sheets, towels, internet, TV, your room cleaned everyday. So think wisely and make the right choice!

It was mostly OK

We got off to a bad start. The parking bays outside Reception are marked off with raised bricks that are invisible from inside your car. Driving away, one tyre caught on a brick and was ripped open. I really don't recommend parking in those slots - you can stop just up the road or in the disabled bay for the few minutes needed to check in. If you do park there and the same thing happens to you, the local E. Leclerc is basically the same as the UK Halfords and has very helpful and efficient staff and they managed to find a replacement tyre for us. Odalys did not offer us compensation. Pros: St Jean de Luz is a pretty town with a lovely beach There are a lot of places of interest to travel to by car The apartment was scrupulously clean Very comfortable bed and pillows The pool is clean, warm, and quite big as these things go St Jean is cyclable if you don't mind pushing up the first hill Cons: The apartment was shadowed by thick foliage and the lighting in the living area was inadequate, making it feel gloomy There is no supermarket near enough to walk to Lots of noise from freight trains passing by Tacky furniture (fake leather sofa, for example) Everything costs extra. The WiFi was expensive for a barely adequate connection There was not a speck of washing up liquid, or salt and pepper, or any other supplies left by former residents. This is different from any other self-catering place I've stayed The nearest beach is grit and gravel rather than sand. It's very pretty though! We still managed to have a good time. I recommend the white water rafting - it's really not hard and you don't have to paddle much at all because the river carries you. I'm not at all fit and I loved it. It's also worth visiting San Sebastian (by train from Hendaye) and Biarritz and Bayonne. We thought the Basque Museum at Bayonne was well worth the visit. The welcome drink and introduction to the apartments is all in French but if you don't speak French it's probably worth sitting through and speaking to the staff in English afterwards, because they had useful tips on outings in the area. The local tourist information offices mostly gave us inaccurate information. We never did find a market at San Sebastian (unless you count the supermarket where we were directed!) and the Basque dancing in Villefranque at 8pm turned out to be Basque singing at 7pm. It was very good singing though, and I'm now following the group on FaceBook. As a base to go out from, the apartment was adequate. I'm not sure we'd go back, though, and we wouldn't use Odalys again.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel in mid September and enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and spacious and the pool area was lovely. My disappointment with the ODaly chain occurred after our stay. When we returned home we discovered our credit card was charged twice for our stay. We immediately emailed ODaly reservations and asked them to refund the overcharge of €186. We received an email back asking for backup of the overcharge which we duly obliged. That was three weeks ago and we have heard nothing back from the hotel. I have constantly emailed them asking are they looking at the query but they have NEVER responded. In my last email I stated I would leave negative feedback and still nothing! At this stage I will have to contact visa and pursue the refund through them. I am really disappointed with the customer service of this hotel and will never stay again. This is a pity as I enjoyed my stay but not enough to put for the stay twice!!
