This hotel has a great location and is right on the beach. If I were to rate the hotel solely on the location and the views it would be 5 stars. Conversely, taking the room into consideration, there were a few let downs. My room seemed run down and there were a lot of fixtures missing from the room and in their place was a sticker saying "removed." To me this seems very strange, I'm not sure if it was being renovated or they were removed for another reason. The hotel staff were very friendly, and most front desk staff could speak enough english to communicate. The breakfast and the lunch buffets were very pleasing. The lunch buffet was also a very good price.
My worst hotel experience
Reviewed 30 October, 2017
I really had a very bad experience in this hotel, the worst one on my whole life...
First of all, they lost my reservation and I need to wait a lot of time while the staff talk with a lot of people to solve the problem (have a copy of your reservation with you always! It can save you from this kind of situation).
The hotel had only one of their social elevators working and it broke too and we need to going up and down using the stairs, including to carry our luggage because they have only one guy attending all the guests.
Room service? Forget about, I needed to wait from 60 to 90 minutes to have a simple bottle of water in my room.
Some of my friends moved to another hotel near of Sol Barra named Marazul, they had a much better experience than mine paying less.
So, I warn you: Stay away of Sol Barra!
Charity Cycling Challenge
Reviewed 27 October, 2017
We were a large group of ladies staying here for a the beginning of our trip, we were all taking part in a Charity Cycling Challenge for Cancer Charities. The lobby has WIFI but you will struggle to get a good quality connection outside of the lobby.
Breakfast consisted of lots of cakes, fresh fruit, yoghurt, there was a cook that prepared fresh omelettes which were very nice.
All the staff were welcoming and helpful, room was clean and quite basic. But we weren't there to stay in the hotel rooms all the time.
The Hotel is a few minutes walk from the beach, I can't say that we felt unsafe, but it's just common sense do not wear expensive watches or jewellery and wear a cross the body handbag.

The lobby of this hotel was very nice, and an enjoyable place to hang out. The room had a nice sea view and was cleaned regularly. It was a bit more run down than the lobby but it was fine. The elevator was slow so I often took the stairs to the 6th floor. The breakfast was also really good, great range of breads, hot food, cereal, lactose free items and cooked tapioca/omelette. There were a few things that disappointed me. On check in, we received no information about wifi, breakfast, the pool, the town etc. I later came down to ask about it. I also looked for information on local activities, a post office etc and staff seemed uninterested to help. The other issue I had is the wifi. There is free wifi is in the lobby and you have to pay for it in the rooms. The wifi in the lobby was well below acceptable, unbearably slow and basically impossible to use at peak times. It was difficult to communicate with family at home as a result, which is really important for me when I am abroad. I found a restaurant nearby that had faster internet. I think it is very possible for the hotel to improve the wifi in the lobby. However overall I had a pleasant stay there and was very happy with the location mainly and it was affordable to stay there.
Perfect location and services

It is a big hotel located on a quiet place, however distant only some steps of the beach, the noisy promenade and the beautiful light house "O Farol"!
It has a nice place for tourists to sit in the front of it. It is like a spacious veranda, where there are tables and chairs, benches, and you can observe the beautiful Bay, beach and curious customs local people have. There are some restaurants right across the Hotel, however, I recommend you to have dinner or have snacks in the open bar or restaurant of the Hotel. It is delicious and not expensive food. It was a great place to spend our vacations and I would definitely come back to this Hotel and to this City!!! I loved it!
