More about the hotel
Lovely classical hotel
Lovely classical hotel with rooms arranged around enclosed vegetated courtyards. In addition there is a fabulous smallish tropical garden at its center. The place is stuffed with interesting art pieces: pictures, pottery, sculpture and so forth. Friendly effective staff. Pleasant spacious rooms with comfortable beds with plenty of bedding for colder nights. Well located for the old town
Beautiful looking hotel near the main plaza
Beautiful looking hotel only steps away from the main plaza, has a central courtyard covered in greenery. The room was large with two double beds, very clean but no aircon. Great shower. Provided filtered water. Breakfast for our room rate was not a buffet but fruit and toast with one choice of one cooked dish, which was okay. We found all the staff friendly but then again we always greet them in our badly spoken Spanish.
The negatives greater than the pluses
We arrived at 12:30 AM and they would not give us the booked king bed. The young male reception clerk was not apologetic and rude. The old section of the hotel has a single power outlet in the bedroom and bathroom. Wifi is slow and often not available. The newer rooms across the street are nicer but there are barking dogs right next to the courtyard, all day all night. We went to Palanque so checked out but returned the following afternoon Same clerk and he said no king bed. Again he was rude and did not even try to accommodate. My wife asked again and he gave us a room on the street (loud) and near the dogs. There was a person standing there (manager?) and they did not help. It seemed that this is what they are trained to do By the way The stay in Palenque was outstanding. The good parts were breakfast, Most of the staff were good at their jobs and friendly. The sheets and beds are nice. With training this can be an excellent hotel. They could provide outlet multipliers. internet speeds in Mexico vary but Palanque had no issues and neither did airports or local restaurants. The hotel has limited control over guests but this hotel seems to cater to tour operators. Often guests leave early or arrive late. Guests were loud enough talking loudly or even rolling their bags to wake you up every day.. There is no soundproofing in the rooms. You could hear guests walking above you.
Lovely classic hotel
We spent 2 nights here as part of our tour of Mexico, from Mexico City to Cancun. This was one of our favourite hotels. Comfortable beds, good bed linen, hit water, good buffet breakfast. Coffee was foul but I never found good coffee in any hotel in Mexico! Staff were helpful & friendly. Be warned laundry is expensive priced per item. Cheaper to take out somewhere they charge by the kilo but we didn't have time! Ate in the restaurant the first night. Small menu, with average food. My pork was very salty but the wine was good. Lovely areas to relax in with plants & a feeling of cool tranquility. Had no issues with noise at all.
Great hotel
Location is fantastic. Just a few steps down the road and your on the main pedestrian street where restaurants, cafes, bars and shops are. The hotel itself is comfortable with a filtered water dispenser in the lobby. It is breathtakingly decorated with a beautiful indoor garden. The restaurant on site is great too with wonderful staff. Rooms were comfortable and big in size. Concierge available to help with bags and they were super friendly. Reception staff were quite unfriendly actually never smiling or greeting you when you walked passed them to get to your room.. sometimes it is just the little things
