Decent option in a good location with great staff

Reviewed 22 january, 2022

We stayed 3 nights after arriving in SJO and before picking up our car to head out. Firstly the hotel is in a good location. We had 2 days to see the city (good amount of time to see most things). The centre was walkable and took about 30 minutes to get to most sites by foot. At night it felt safe around the hotel but going further still advisable to take a car. A few ok dining options next to the hotel. The hotel arranged airport pickup. We couldn’t find our driver (no one holding up the sign with our name as promised). We asked around (the security guy by the exit) and found the taxi company they use. After that it was all smooth getting to the hotel. Checkin was efficient although the evening staff are definitely a bit less friendly than the day staff. Biggest let down was the room. Our room (10) was very dated. Shower was half broken but they fixed it really quickly so well done. The bed for us was uncomfortable. The biggest issue however was the poor sound insulation. The room is right next to the intersection of corridors and a water cooler. Hence people gather there all hours given the early morning and late night flights. Being popular with loud Americans it meant that there was plenty of noise early morning and later evening. We could also hear everything from the rooms next door and above us. So if you are a light sleeper better ask for a different room! There is a little pasta place (they do lots of other things as well) just around the corner from the hotel that is a great place for a quick dinner. Altogether a pretty decent option in a good location and we would stay again (asking for a different room).

LOUD…construction zone

Reviewed 3 january, 2022

I try to write fair and honest reviews. I’d like to start by saying that the staff is really lovely, the pool (while freezing) is a nice and comfortable place to relax or catch some sun, and the breakfast was simple, but felt like all you can eat. Tons of food. The rooms are clean and the bed was fine. I stayed here for one night at the tail end of an 8-day trip in Mal País. I was hoping to relax and sleep in. The bottom floors are incredibly noisy throughout the day as it is. During check-in, I was informed of the current renovations taking place. Little did I know, I would be staying next to a full construction zone. Woke up to the banging of hammers on the wall above my head. My dreams of rest were shattered violently. I understand it must be hard to renovate a hotel while it’s open, but maybe you warn guests on your website and don’t wait til check-in? Maybe you offer a reduced rate or a discount at check out? Maybe you wait to begin the hammering until noon? I expressed my concern to the staff. Again, they were very kind and gracious, but the hammering persisted all morning. I’m not one to demand refunds or discounts, but I really thought that one would/should be offered in this case. It was not. It’s a nice place run by nice people, and reasonable for the price. Just call ahead and make sure the renovations are complete.

We would love to come back here again.

Nice central location. Very friendly service staff. The very friendly Maria from reception was exceptionally helpful. Since the Swiss authorities had changed the entry requirements for everyone at short notice, we needed a PCR test at short notice. Maria quickly organized a very friendly doctor who carried out this test in the hotel room. We had the result 12 hours later. A nice restaurant with a view of San José was also booked for us at short notice at reception. For us, these courteous gestures were absolutely extraordinary. Many thanks to the whole team.

The service is phenomenal

This place is a definite go to - not only because it is a nice place but especially because of the service. Many employees are gems, and go out of their way to cater to accommodate according to your needs with kindness. I would like to specifically recognize Sylvia Ramirez at the front desk. She is extremely sweet, helpful, caring- and goes out of her way to help others. She really assisted me with everything I needed as guest in the best way possible- and with a smile on her face the entire time! She really went above and beyond and I want to make sure management hears about & acknowledges her for her wonderful efforts she puts through with her service. It’s people like her and your staff that make me want to return. I also want to recognize Francisco in the kitchen department. My family is vegetarian- and he handled each item with attention & detail and my entire family loved breakfast. (We have to make sure there is no cross contamination with non-veg, frying in oil, etc.) Please acknowledge him as well. Another word is for Mauricio in the early morning kitchen. He is absolutely fantastic- Extremely, sweet, caring, and helpful. We were leaving early this morning and he assisted us in the kitchen with great care and attention as well. The employees here are really wonderful. Please recognize them all- they beyond deserve it. After I wrote this note to Director of Performance & Host Sylvia Hon, she gave the most wonderful reply in support of her team. Her message conveyed the care she puts in as a manager- and this entire staff including Director Hon should be acknowledged for their efforts by upper management. It is because of people like them that we engage with the place and want to return again. Thanks to all of you. It is also a place that has sustainable service! The even arranged for less expensive COVID testing on site.

A Charming Oasis in the Heart of San Jose, Costa Rica

My husband and I just retuned home from a wonderful stay at the La Sabana Hotel-Suites-Apartments in San Jose, Costa Rica. Clean and Safe. The amazing staff were so friendly and accommodating whether it was at the check-in desk, the restaurant staff, housekeeping staff or the gardener who lovingly kept the landscaping looking its best. We would like to give a shout out to Maria, at the front desk who was happy to answer any questions we had. They will also arrange popular tours that will pick you up at the hotel. The hotel is surrounded by a high wall of flowering greenery with a crystal clear pool and patio chaise lounges in the centre of the hotel. There is also a sauna. A hot breakfast is included with a number of choices. They also offer room service for lunch and dinner. Good food and reasonably priced. The menu items included Grilled Chicken with a fresh salad, spaghetti pomodoro, Greek salad, pizza combo, club sandwich with fries. They also have great smoothies. It was reassuring to us that all Covid-19 protocols were in place. We could sense their pride in making sure their guests felt at home. Our room was very clean and nicely appointed. We had a standard room, but they also have rooms with a kitchen if you would like to prepare your own meals. There is a handy large supermarket for groceries and snacks, less than an easy 10 minute walk. All in all, this hotel is a jewel and we are looking forward to a return visit .
