Theft! overcharged by front desk manager
I booked this room through my Marriott account, and after booking a king bed balcony. I got a confirmation with two queen beds. I immediately messaged the hotel and, after about 30 minutes and no response, called the hotel to make sure they could fix it to a kind bed with a balcony. I get a confirmation on the app, and the lady on the phone tells me, oh, no problem, I just responded in the app. We are all set and got you back in a king. So I check in the next day and to my surprise no balcony, which was about 50 more a night. I go down to the desk and ask about that when I am told, oh, we are said out of those. I ask the lady, well, I paid for a balcony room and was confirmed it yesterday. She communicates well I don't have that. I said, ok can I get the difference back since I have been downgraded? Nope because our rates are higher today, and you are paying less than that? I managed hotels for many years, and never have I seen a hotel downgrade you and say, oh, and you are still going to pay the Balcony rate. Quinn Stadshaug, the manager, was nothing but unhelpful and could care less about my downgrade and finding a solution. She was blatantly cold and rude she continuously would stair at us from the front of the restaurant after too while we had drinks and are which made for an uncomfortable evening. How she is a leader in a hotel with zero care for the guest is shocking and no understanding of charging for the downgraded room. Beware of her and the front desk. You will see in the photos of them confirming my change and then paying for a room I did not get. I will say the F&B department was outstanding, one of the best I have come across kiddos to them the service they provided. All of them with happy to help and making incredible drinks and food.
Price gouging at its finest
I understand the hotel industry has been hit extremely hard by the pandemic. And I feel for the employees, etc. But this hotel needs to reevaluate its pricing policies. The hotel is nice. It’s clean and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly & helpful. But this is a hotel off the highway, and one of the busiest in the world at that. We pulled into the parking lot, and went to look for a parking space in the rather large lot. But it was entirely blocked for valet parking. Meaning, there was no other option. You have to valet your vehicle. My colleague said, “Maybe it’s included?” No. It’s $42 dollars a day. $42 to park in a parking lot off the highway. This is not midtown Manhattan or downtown San Francisco. And again, we had no other choice. So that’s price gouging. I was ticked and we hadn’t even walked into the hotel yet. We check-in and are told about a $25 ‘resort fee’ in a hotel that’s not a resort, and with most of its facilities closed, due to Covid. (You can put that fee to drinks or food, but still, I’ve now paid an extra $67, and I’m not at the room yet.) So we get to our rooms, to find out that using the Wifi is another $14 a day. I have not paid for Internet access in probably 5 years. You can join their rewards club to get it free, but at this point I’m so irritated, that I’m not about to give them more of my personal details. (Plus, this was a work trip, so I’ll get reimbursed.) It’s now up to $81 in added charges. I booked a King room with a balcony. See the attached photo. That’s hardly a balcony. That’s a ledge, at best. And again, I’m looking at the highway, over the parking lot - that I can’t park in, without paying for valet. Next morning, I look for a coffee maker or even just a cold bottle of water. Nothing. That’s probably due to Covid. So I get it. Fine. Then I go downstairs to get a bottle of water. $5 for a bottle of water. At this point, even though I was fortunate to have my company pay the tab, it was just a very irritating experience. People do not like getting the screws turned on them in this way, especially in these tough times. Not only will I not stay at this hotel, but I’m swearing off Marriott on the whole, as this clearly speaks to their business practices. Sincerely, A lost customer
Beautiful new property with a great location
This Hotel is very tastefully appointed, and in fact still smells new. I feel the guy who has the worst job at the Hotel is the Valet, which you must use. "Hi, it's going to be 42.50 a day." To give you an example of how ridiculous this is, last year we stayed at the Negresco in Nice (France) A guy in livery unloads your car, then whisks it away for $25.00 a day. Here you schlep your own luggage, but that may be a Covid thing. Your next unpleasant surprise is finding out you will have to pay for internet, and if you ant streaming grade, it's 17.00. I was aware of these charges in advance by studying reviews on Trip Advisor. I brought my mobile hotspot and was able to avoid the fee. The room is very pretty, with nice little touches. It has a small fridge, USB charging slots, hair dryer, iron & board. There is a small balcony. The guy at the desk said "You have the view of the hills" Also the freeway and an elementary school directly behind us. If school was in session you would probably want to keep the sliders shut because of noise. The hotel has lots of outdoor areas, a lobby bar and a pool. There are dining options on site. You can easily walk to the downtown and the Mission, location is excellent. The room is not huge, but was perfect for a couple. I would come back if the price is right, because you have to figure that Chicken S**t parking fee into the cost. Also no glasses or coffee maker in room (Covid thing) So I brought my own wine glasses.
Very good but needs service improvements
We just had a 1 night stay at this hotel - it's a brand new, gorgeous property with a great location right next to the mission and a very short walk downtown. The only parking option is valet - at $42/night (!) - but the valet team was efficient and friendly. Check in though was difficult for no apparent reason. It seemed like the gentleman taking care of us didn't really know how to use the system (we were a family of 5 so booked 2 rooms next to each other, which was clearly stated at the time I made the reservation). Not only did he have trouble getting the rooms sorted, he was visibly flustered and combative at times which made no sense. I looked for his name tag but he wasn't wearing one so I can't comment on his name. Upon arriving in the rooms - which are gorgeous - there was no bottled water, glassware, etc. I am Marriott Gold so this isn't the service I normally expect. When we asked a woman at the front desk she was more than happy to give us water, but it seems easy enough to offer that to people when they check in. Also at check in we weren't told anything about the hotel - check out times, wifi information, which restaurants were open and when, etc. Again, strange for a high end Marriott property. There are some great options for casual outdoor seating, the restaurant is really good, and we did enjoy our time even with the above hiccups. I'd love to return again when they've cleaned up their check in staff. Also - avoid Room 251 & 253 - it's right above the staff area and the laundry room was shaking our floors!
