Could have been better. The beach and snorkling were good. The room was large but in disrepair. The food at most of the restraurants was not as good as other Secret resorts we've stayed at. Housekeeping was wonderful. The resort was safe. Weather was great. Our server on the beach named Wendy was awesome and very attentive. I rate this resort a two star. The resort next door had kids and was much better. I would have stayed there if I knew they were so close and I would be spending most of my time there. The entertainment was much better. The spa was great. Our massage was perfect.

A Few Cards Short of a Full Deck

Reviewed 19 january, 2022

This resort was highly recommended to us in lieu of cruising, since it is all-inclusive. This is the first time our travel agent has missed the mark! The hotel did not even spell our name right on the actual room form. Check in was a dreadful experience, and promised coupons were never delivered. Once we got past that, the grounds are lovely, and the rooms are comfortable and well furnished. Almost all have a wonderful view. Unfortunately, that's about the best I can say. Food was frequently terrible, and service was worse. The Entertainment Chart was almost always wrong about the time or place for an activity, or even whether a given restaurant was open. Service in most restaurants was slow and sub-par (and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here!) Their Excursion Staff, however, is one of the very best around. Housekeeping could be hit or miss. To be fair, it was excellent most of the time. Security was also excellent. Sadly, I would NOT go back to this resort, or recommend it. I have stayed in other all-inclusives in Cozumel that do not suffer from these shortcomings.

Good, but not quite 5 star worthy

Reviewed 18 january, 2022

Friendly staff, however not many activities to do on resort and hard to find out what goes on each day and where due to it being such a large resort. The entertainment staff were not very entertaining and didn't reach out to guest to get them involved or tell them what was going on. The pool staff who take your drink/food menu were very sweet to us. Drinks were good for the most part, except the coffee at the café. The coffee served in the restaurants is decent. Food was not great, except for the restaurants at night were pretty decent. The fruit was nice and fresh. But some of the food was either under or over cooked. The room service always had good food to fall back on in case dinner didn't work out and the room service food had a good variety and was good! If you plan on going to restaurants at night be sure to know what is being served on each night. They typically keep each food theme in the same spot but switch it daily. Example-one spot might have Mediterranean one day then the next a steakhouse then back to Mediterranean the next. Beaches were clean for the most part, very rocky so would bring water shoes if you want to do a lot of swimming in the ocean. There were quite a few jelly fish (which sting but only burn for 1-2 minutes and it goes away with no mark) when snorkeling and jumping off pier. Snorkeling was great, there is a lot to see in the water in front of the resort. Makes the occasional stinging worth it. We had 4 in our group and rented a private boat for 8 hours which the drivers take you wherever you want to go, and do whatever you want to do (which we had no idea where to go but they took us to really good fishing and snorkeling spots). We caught two barracuda which the captain and the other worker made ceviche with and served it along with other food and drinks they brought for us for lunch that was included in the price. The price was about $118/person which was well worth it. There were options for shorter periods of time to rent the boat too but I feel 8 hours was a perfect amount of time to snorkel and fish. There is free mini sailboat/catamarans and mini kayaks on the resort they don't tell you about that you can use.

Everything you need to know

This is probably the lowest class of all the Secrets hotels. It is a far cry from 5 stars. I am going to give you the run down. Getting to the resort: It is about 30 minutes from the airport. DO NOT pre-book the ride. You can walk off the airport and hail a taxi in 3 minutes. They are everywhere. However, it is not $9 like people were saying.. but $30. Expect to pay this if you get a transfer at the airport anyways. To get a taxi, walk directly out of the airport, there is a small path that you will see. It is about a 3 minute walk straight. Only way you can go. You will see a round about and that is where you can hail a cab. They take you right to the resort. Getting back to the airport: The resort is great about getting a cab. They are lined up outside the resort and you can get a cab in less than 5 minutes. Make sure you confirm the price of the ride first so there are no questions later. Cash: the resorts atm was broken the entire trip and so wasn't the atm next door. Good news is that the airport has a lot of atms. Make sure you stop at them because a lot of places only take cash cash cash. Tipping; everyone tips and it is expected. If you don't you will get the evil eye. $1 or $2 at the bar and a little more at dinner. Again... stop at the atm before leaving the airport. Airport: you will fly into a small air strip. Bring a pen! you will need it to fill out all the custom forms they give you. You will then go through customs, which is right at the baggage area. Super easy. Don't bring food, cigarettes' or anything with cbd. They have dogs and they will jump on you and your bags. If you have cbd on you, expect to pay a fine right then and there. Just leave it at home and finish your food on the plane. Hotel arrival: If you are preferred club you will actually be escorted to a different area that is a very far walk from the front of the hotel. This area is nice and has a bar however expect to wait as there is only ONE concierge. Preferred Club vs Non Preferred: I believe this is the only resort where preferred club doesn't get you anything different. There is no place you can't go if you aren't preferred and there are zero, zip extra perks. I promise. The only thing is you have to walk a lot further to check in. DO NOT PAY FOR PREFERRED. Again, there is not a separate anything. Hotel Rooms: Good luck. They are all very run down. We met about ten couples on the resort throughout our stay and everyone was extremely disappointed in their rooms. They are 3 stars at best and that is a long shot. We didn't have hot water until or last three nights there. Expect to take cold showers. Every room for whatever reason is like this. The rooms are very cold too and there isn't a way to turn the ac down... or up. You can either have the room freezing, or shut the system off completely. The rooms are very distressed and toilets don't flush well, drains don't drain well, there is mold in areas, our mini fridge didnt work so items were all warm. We did switch rooms the first night as our room was in the middle of the entertainment and very loud. Our new room wasn't much better as you can hear every single person in the hallway. When they have luggage, it is impossible to sleep. Room Service: You can only order breakfast from 5am to 7am. That's it. After that it is the lunch menu and dinner menu. We did order it twice and the food was very very good. Better than at the restaurants, but the items are limited. Also sometimes we didn't get all the items and there was no way to rectify this (example: we ordered two chicken wings and a fajitta and only received one order) ok whatever no big deal. Maid service: Great. they did an awesome job cleaning the room and filling up everything... but we did leave a tip everyday. Pools: The water was cold maybe around 72-74 but the pools are extremely clean. They clean them every morning. Bars: There are ample bars on the property and the bartenders can make anything. Their drinks were always incredible and you never had to wait to get one. Also, there are waiters walking along the pools and the beaches. If you tip, you get better service. Beach: This area is part of the major reef so the beach is not a swimming beach. This is a beautiful beach to snorkel at. There are endless fish and snorkeling on the beach is free. DON'T waste your money paying to go on a boat to snorkel. We went on two snorkel trips and saw almost nothing. At the resort though, we went 2 inches into the water and saw over 30 species. You are surrounded by fish. Just watch out for the jelly fish. Only go in calm waters because if it is windy, the waves and wind bring the jellies in and they do sting. There are also kayaks, and sail boats you can rent at no cost. Shops on the resort: expect to pay $30 for a $5 sunscreen. They wanted $33 for $2 old navy flip flops, $11.50 for a dollar tree brush, and $16.50 for a small thing of tooth paste. ALL toiletries are provided by the hotel. Scan the QR codes in your room and you can order directly through the web portal for free. Sunscreen, combs, lotion, razor, toothbrush, tooth paste, whatever you need, they have it through the hotel room for free. Also, the tee shirts are like $20-$25 but off the resort they are 5 for $20. This was at the mayan temple tour we did. Great prices Pueblo Del Maiz. Go there Tours: The jeep tour was great. They bring you to this eco park, also this beautiful secluded beach with an amazing restaurant. Then they bring you to this mayan temple where you do this really neat interactive tour. Snorkle: not worth it.. do it on the beach Scooter: It is $30 plus $15 for insurance. If you go downtown it is $18 but how will you get there and back.... a $30 taxi ride? We did rent the scooter at the resort next door, sunscape and it was $50 in total, cash only. ALSO you need to fill the scooter up and the distance from the gas station to the hotel isn't very far but he will try to say its not "full" even though you just filled it. Tell him to piss off and he will. Don't give him a dime more. He does this with everyone. Tries to get a little more money We often found people were always trying to get money from us. But they never tried to push the wine bottles which was good. Restaurants: All first come first serve. You might need to wait a bit but it goes by fast. There are A LOT of options and the food is decent but not great by any means. The portions are small and not seasoned well. You can always walk right to sunscape next door and go to their restaurants. They only have two though. Both Mexican. You DONT need a day pass or anything at all. Just tell them your room number and you are good. Enjoy both resorts anytime. Oceana: seafood but very limited. You can't get shrimp, or oysters, or lobster. One plate has scallops, the rest is fish, and octopus or squid. Bordeoux: Probably spelling wrong. Yummy! Great food but the portions are very small. I think the tenderloin was the best thing I have ever had. You also get a bigger portion than at the actual steak out. Just know that RARE means RAW. Get medium or medium rare. This place had a lot of great options. Windows: Mediterrian or Steak. the nights alternate. The steaks are not great. Very tiny. If you get a ribeye, it is a small portion of an actual ribeye. I don't know if you can order more than one. Cohan: The sushi place. Everyone really liked this place but the options were very limited. They had three rolls, no apps like dumplings or spring rolls. Then 3 kinds of sashimi, and 3 kinds of nigiri. Then four entree options like beef stir fry, pad thai, beef with rice and something else. That's it. But people really liked it so maybe take their word for it. Also, they had no saki which I was really disappointed about but. Market cafe: this is where the breakfast buffet is and at night it becomes an Italian restaurant or Asian. The Italian menu was kinda limited and not great. We never got to try the Asian menu but it looked decent. Skybar: Eh. Just a bar on the top floor where Cohan was. There was no pool, or way to order food like most of the other Secrets. Service: The bartenders and wait staff were all very good. Just make sure to point and reiterate what you order because we were getting things that we didn't order and not getting things we did order. No big deal. Easy fix. But they are all very nice. Entertainment; There was this lady named Hydey and she is amazing. She is honestly the reason we enjoyed this trip. She constantly had fun things to do for the quest throughout the day and made sure everyone was involved. She is the hardest worker I have ever met. She was just a joy. We might come back just for her despite everything else. Smoking: There was a review that mentioned smoking a lot but we didn't experience this at all. I think one person had a cigar once and thats it. We never saw or smelled smoke. COVID: The hotel had the testing down. They did great!! On their game. You walk in and are immediately giving a paper with instructions. All you do is go to front desk and sign up for a time to take your covid test the day before you leave. Then show up for that appointment, they swab your nose and two hours later you get your paper for TSA. Easy Peasy. If you do test positive the hotel lets you and your partner stay free of charge for the 14 day quarantine. The whole process was so easy. Honeymoon package: So they offer a honeymoon, or anniversary package and I never saw this. We didn't get anything for being on our honeymoon even though we told them in advance and showed them the documents. They apologized and said they would do something special but they never did. No big deal, just don't expect anything. Weather: January is still a tad cold around 70 to 79 degrees. It rained daily for about 30 minutes and our last two days were super super windy. I think March thru June is the best time to go. Towels: BRING YOUR OWN. They were always always out of towels and beach chairs. Spa: decent but the water in the showers are all cold. Not sure what's up with this place but hot water doesn't seem to exist. The locker rooms are very tiny and basic. Expect a towel, sandals and a rob. That's it. Overall: maybe a 3 to a 3.5
