Stunning location, above average facilitie, dogs are welcomed but in room but DOUBLE CHECK your bill.
Spend the last weekend of September at this hotel for an event so decided to combine it with my birthday celebration. Since the hotel's website is only availble in German it was more convenient to book via another international booking site. Hubby , kid and pooch checked in early while I attended the event. The room appointed was large with great view and even came with a complimentary doggy food and water bowls~very thoughful ! That evening hubby shared that he had prepaid for the room at check in ,it was then when I noticed that the total he paid didn't correspond to the confirmation I recieved. The next day I personally went to the reception to contest and got the same staff who issued the bill the morning before. I was going to point out that the additional child bed , which was charged at the cost of an adult bed, was included in the agreed room rate. The lady in question was already unhappy that I have a what she referred to as a "problem" with her initial calculation. Having the confirmation proof that the extra bedding is included she then reluctantly capitulated to give the refund. With nothing but good intention I offerred that she could make a copy of this confirmation I recieved through the 3rd party booking engine, she then immediately became offensive , starring me down and told me that why did I think that she needed that proof! No apologies offerred whatsoever for her miscalculation was bearly forgiveable but to be condescending and making the hotel guest feel like such a bother is so inappropriate in any hospitality business let alone an establishment which Schlossberg Rheinfels claims to be. Should I go as far as to believe that I was treated so because of my skin color (come to think of it I didn't see any other non-white guests apart from me ) ? She seems so pleasant when my husband was checking in! Despite the fact that the location was outstanding and the facilities were impressive (electric car charger was a big plus) , it goes without saying that there is a dim chance I would ever return. I only feel sorry for the behind the scene staff who did their time only for the front desk to let them down. For that I'm generous enough to give this place a "poor" rating rather than "terrible". Though in my opinion, how I was treated was just beyond terrible!
Wonderful Hotel
My husband and I were on a small group WWII tour and spent 2 nights in this beautiful hotel. The room was comfortable and impeccable. We had a view of The Rhine River from our room and balcony. I highly recommend this hotel. I am not sure of the cost since it was included in our package. Regardless, it is a special treat.
Nice location, disappointing hotel, expensive prices
The hotel has a stunning location, but the hotel itself is not worth the price. Our room had a tiny triangular window at floor level and looked like it hadn’t been renovated for 20 years. We thought we had booked a room in a medieval castle hotel, but when we checked in, we were pointed in the direction of a secondary building to the side of the castle itself. Here we found something which resembled a eastern german 60s building that someone had tried to spice up with some towers. It was difficult to find and the reception was very little help. And if you do book this hotel, DON’T book the package deals! They are extremely overpriced and the included meals are definitely not the gourmet food that it is advertised at. Mostly, it seemed like the sort of place where all the money has gone to advertising and nothing to actually making the hotel a nice and welcoming experience worth the cost.
Excellent
Our highest compliment: Why didn't we stay longer! We had a suite on the literal corner of the Castle. It came complete with windows facing both upstream and downstream of the Rhine which opened to a large balcony overlooking the river and running the exterior of our room. The view was impressive! The room was large and nicely decorated with every comfort imaginable. We also used the sauna and pool which were very relaxing. Dinner was again excellent with a great view. Service was attentive and the wine selection great. We really enjoyed staying here. As I had booked this as a surprise it went over very well. Best stay of our trip!
Fantastic views
My wife and I spent 3 nights in a Villa room. Views on the valley are extraordinary. The restaurant's culinary delights were exceptional. Unfortunately the hotel rooms are not air conditioned which did not help during the heat wave and temperatures over 28C.
