Unfortunately did not meet expectations but I assume reduced staffing due to end of season. I can only assume in season that this would be a great place to stay over. not all the wines were available. check-in was slow and lunch service was also slow.
A wonderful time

The staff is very attentive and the rooms are so, so nice with a wonderful view for sunrise and sunset. I can highly recommend to stay at Santiago. The only regret from my side is that I didn't stay longer.
Outstanding Experience and Value for Money

Start your day with fresh bread, local cheese and honey. Let yourself be guided by Chef Luís Batalha in a visit to the local fish and fruit market, while listening to stories and traditions. Put on your apron and learn how to cook simple yet explosive flavours from Alentejo. Fall in love with the amazing sunset outline of Santiago's castle viewed from your room. 🌇 Raise your glass of fine Portuguese wine and make a toast to an experience you will never forget! 🍷

We booked for one night and we got a warm welcome and with a welcome drink. The rooms are nice and the view at sunset is amazing. That evening they had a wine tasting and was really nice with very tasteful wines. From the region, tasted perfect. We liked the ambiance with the open kitchen and the dinner was good. A second night was not possible but we decided to go back on the way back, This was also perfect and we tried their pizza's. Good taste! The carpet is nice but has to be treated against spots. Also some maintenance will be needed in short time to prevent small defects
An absolute gem

From the moment we walked in the service was outstanding. We were made to feel so welcome (as was out little dog). Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were very genuine. The view from the room was absolutely beautiful. The daily workshops were great fun and we learned a lot in a short space of time. I would highly recommend that you make the most of these workshops and if you have time take a class or two. This is what the hotel is really about. You learn a lot and the restaurant is definitely the hub of the hotel with a lot of interesting things going on. The vibe was relaxed and welcoming with our dog also being made to feel so welcome. Thank you! Our room was lovely. The bathroom was, if anything a little tired around the edges as were the carpets in the hallways on our floor. However, the ambience, the genuine friendliness and kindness of the staff made these little things seem very unimportant. The outside area was also lovely and relaxing. Definitely wouldn´t hesitate to recommend this little gem of a hotel. The food was outstanding and a glorious celebration of all things Alentejo and Mediterranean.
