Cheap and cheerful, good location

We stayed in one of the apartments above the supermarket, one block from the main hostel building. The staff at the hostel were lovely and did their best to answer our questions using google translate. They also helped us book on a couple of tours (Valparaiso and Concho y toro wine tour). The apartment was an open plan galley kitchen and bedroom/living area downstairs with a small balcony. Upstairs was a double bed and a bathroom. The apartment didn't feel too clean but we were only there to sleep.

Sold and changed names, disorganized and dirty

Reviewed 24 july, 2018

Stayed recently and arrived to find the place locked up - redirected to apartments - Lastarria suites. Apartments are tired and run down. House keeping is infrequent and poor. My room was dirty, had to ask for towels and toilet paper. Many lights in apartment not working. Lacked many essentials such as tea towels, crockery, soap etc. Apartment corporate also at times rude and uncooperative. Stay elsewhere.

would have given a big old 5 TEN YEARS AGO

andes hostel apartments are a part of my life; I've spent the best vacation ever back in 2010 with my sibling and a friend and dude we had a blast: brand new apartment in a vibrant building, wifi internet, cable, complimentary breakfast at the hostel and front desk always staffed.. now, let's fast track 8 years: the apartment building is in degrading conditions - such as a leak in bathroom- total lacking of cleanliness, and the front desk staff pick and chose which phone calls to answer. I do have respect for the employees and appreciate their commitment towards the company, however, this review is focused on the GUEST perception, and be aware of these facts before you choose staying at andes hostel.

Terrible Check In, couldn't find apartment location

Reviewed 9 november, 2017

We received an email telling us that the hotel was being renovated, and we should check in at a different location. This was shortly before we arrived! I'll put the email below. It didn't make much sense, so we tried to cancel the reservation- they would not let us. On the day of check in we had been travelling all day. I was sick and needed bed (and a toilet). We go to the building for check in, there is no information. The building custodians have not heard of the agreement. It's a huge residential complex for a thousand people and there is no clue what is going on. It's night time, but we have to drag our bags to the main hostal. Check in is still in the hostal! The receptionist said the email was wrong - well thanks for correcting! Unless we has exactly 53 USD they would not accept my 103 USD (if you pay in Peso it's an extra 19%). Then we had to drag our bags back to the huge housing complex- and good luck you better speak Spanish there. We were so tired the building custodian thought we were giving her attitude so she gave us attitude. Nice. The apartment was ok but not what we booked. No breakfast, laundry, shared areas etc. The check in ruined it. See below for email: <reservas@ Sent: Friday, 20 October 2017, 18:04 Subject: Change of accomodation Dear: Along with greet, We inform that the building where Andes Hostel is located is part of the National Patrimony of Santiago, Therefore the building enters a remodeling programmed by the owner during the date of his stay. Therefore, the Check in address will be at Merced 562, Depto. 1101B. Attention 24 hours. The address is the same as the room reserved for you. Beforehand we apologize a lot, but they have taken us by surprise. We hope you have a good stay in Santiago. Best Regards and Apologies again,

The Worst Hostel Experience

Reviewed 11 september, 2017

- Poor reception service, both at Checkin when the internet was out and no guest can be accommodated until 10pm, as well as at the checkout where the attendants were laughing and commenting on their language, possibly from the situation reported below. - My bed was broken and when reporting the problem at reception, they did not care much about the situation. They said they would clean it the other day (yes I would have to sleep with the broken bed) but they had no solution or another room for the moment. The next day the bed was still broken !! - The showers are really pipes. The box gets flooded in minutes. - The bathrooms were dirty and with minimal cleaning frequency. I often found the one on my floor clogged. - Unfortunately I could not cancel my reservation because they claimed that I booked through Booking.com at the non-refundable rate and could not cancel. I understand that the rate is non-refundable if the guest does not appear or cancel without reason, but the cancellation would be for no Getting to sleep (basic function of a hostel / hotel). Excuse me or not, I preferred to change hotels. - I do not understand how you managed to earn excellence. Would not recommend to anyone. I've stayed in other hostels and I know this is not a standard of service.
