Nice location, clean and friendly
Hotel La Fayette is nice and clean, breakfast is fine, staff is very friendly, and it is very well located in Providence region, Santiago, Chile. We spent a week there. There's only one big problem: the room was very noisy because of the three main roads in which it is located. Otherwise, it's near nice museums, culture houses, and very close to underground stations. Also near the Costaneira Center and not very far from the newer regions of Santiago, as Las Condes and the Bicentinial Park.
Do not bother!
I booked the La Fayette through the travel agent, the area of Providencia had been recommended to me by a friend. Whilst the area was lovely, the La Fayette was a joke and not worth £50 a night, we have stayed in better places for less! On arriving we were greeted by difficult to open doors, a sullen man sitting behind a small reception located in small foyer. He was certainly the Chilean version of Basil Fawlty, apart from giving us the room key, he gave no other information like what time breakfast was etc and there was no one to help us carry our luggage to our room. Our room was dated, the view was of the back of some buildings, the bathroom was tiny and it was also quite noisy. We left the room a couple of times that evening to eat and walk around and not at any point did the man in reception smile at us. There was free wifi but it rarely worked. Breakfast was beyond a joke, it said in the guide that it was between 7:00-10:30, we went down at 9:45 and all that was there was some dried looking cereals, luke warm tea, three slices of melting cheese and some horrible artificial tasting juice. A woman came out but did not ask if we wanted anything. Thankfully we only stayed in the La Fayette one night, I cannot believe that this place is allowed to operate as a hotel.
La Fayette sounds Classy but its not
On arriving at this Hotel we were greeted in the smallest foyer by a not so enthusiastic lady who booked our room ok no english spoken .On arriving to our room we thought what is this its tired rust stains down the wall from A/C yet we enjoyed the apartment .Our bed and pillows were comfortable we had a balcony over looking someones empty dead swimming pool full of rubbish .Breakfast was continental and we didnt go hungry neither did the creepy crawleys .The man at reception was very helpful as we only had limited spanish and the older gent was helpful by opening doors for us etc .The Hotel needs renovating as it has good potential in a good area close to most tourist spots .My wife is fussy about accom but she enjoyed the adventure as we call it .
Not worth the money
We had two full days in Santiago after our cruise. The room was so small that our luggage had to rest on the sofa. Bathroom was also tiny ! The breakfast buffet was good. It was also close to restaurants, metro, shopping. Getting info on museums, restaurants... they were pathetic. Granted it was just before Christmas... we walked so much only to find out museums were closed or shortened hours and some restaurants were even closed. One Elevator broke down so it was so going up or down. It's really in need of getting remodeled !
After cleaning, it has disappeared a lipstick and a comb. We told the front desk that did not pay much attention, so we started locking our belongings. The room needs reform on the carpet, curtains and paintings. The mattress is extremely old and warped. The bathroom is very small, has an old bathtub that hinders the bath, the hot water lasts only about 20 minutes, if you want more, just after 45 minutes. The good things are wi-fi in the rooms, fair breakfast, and a precious location.
