Great price and geat location
I discovered this property via booking dot com with a filter of "private bathroom" priced low to high. This place had a rating of over 9. For just $31 US per night I got a good sized one bedroom with kitchen in an excellent neighborhood. It's located about 100 yards from the Cerro Santa Lucia. Santa Lucia subway stop is about five blocks south (airport bus to Pajaritos, then subway to Santa Lucia stop). I ended up staying for five nights. I'd definitely stay here again.
Steven & Shalimar are our HEROS-- wonderful experience!!
Not only are these 'apartments' perfectly located, this particular set of units are expertly staffed. STEVEN is an assest, gentleman, scholar. He and SHALIMAR, were the "A" team in our opinion. Many things transpired, good and bad, in Santiago, but they both kept us reassured and safe, directing us to the best results. We took independent day trips, winery, beach, etc. My passport was stolen on our last day. They led us to a resolution, reassuring us things would all work out. We were held over several days, and they got us another room, and helped us navigate the ropes. There are very few English speaking staff, in general, in Santiago, but they were clear and sharp, never waivering, going above and beyond for our safety, and comfort. I consider them to be our 'friends' now, and a huge THANK YOU TO THEM!!
Value for money apartments - but... Could have improvements
We stayed in this complex for a couple of days. The business seems to have a number of apartments across a three-tower complex. It is in an excellent location, with lots of places to visit and eat / drink at locally. Reception was very helpful when we arrived late at night, but we were subsequently not able to get in contact with the. The apartment we were in in tower C was reasonably well appointed with excellent wi-fi access, but suffered from a lack of maintenance and provision of basics for a self-service apartment. For example: shower light not working, bathroom exhaust fan not working, causing bathroom door to swell and not close properly. No plugs at all, nothing to facilitate washing of dishes etc, no tea towels, no cover on lounge, etc. Provision of those things and a hair dryer, and some local info on Santiago would have improved this apartment a lot. It almost seems like they penny-pinch to save a few pesos - and end up delivering a poorer outcome for travellers.
Bad experience
The accommodation itself was ok, but the people running the accommodation conned us into paying for our taxi fare to the airport beforehand, claiming it would be much more beneficial for us as we were leaving early in the morning. Obviously, the taxi driver did not show up and we were forced to get another taxi on the street and pay for another fare to the airport (which is very expensive). When we confronted them about this later, they claimed the taxi arrived and we weren't there! Very unprofessional and spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay in Chile.
Bad experience
After having read so many good reviews about this hotel, I decided to book it for a trip with family. However, when we arrived at the hotel reception, we were informed that the hotel was having problems with the hot water and that we were going to be transferred to another hotel nearby. Unfortunately, the hotel to which we were moved did not seem to have the same quality standard as this one and we were very disappointed.
