Nice but could be better.

In historic district and nice building and pool. Breakfast good. Biggest problem was the sheets were too small for the beds. An easy fix. The hotel feels neglected and sad. Service was just ok. No good restaurants nearby.
Physical structure of the hotel in very bad condition

In the room, (442), I found the dense sink, the broken table seat, air conditioning with dirty filter and cooling very little. The whole room needs urgent restoration.
Breakfast was the best food. Both lunch and dinner had few options, reaching a single main course. One night they had no beer at dinner.
The region where the property is located suffers a noticeable degradation. There is almost no restaurant open in the immediate vicinity.
I definitely do not recommend this hotel, nor for work, which was my case.
The pros and cons of staying in an old classic well located hotel

This used to be a very nice hotel in the seventies and eighties. Despite being on an excellent location near the historic district, the continuous changes in its previous administrations didn’t keep their pace with the new ones, from great brands. All accommodations must be renewed.
Having this in mind, you shouldn’t discard the opportunity of staying there. The staff is wonderful. They try their best to help you with every need. As I said before, the historic district is only a few steps far from you. Very convenient. Breakfast is nice with tropical fruits like cajá (taste like mango and orange mixed together) and delicious tapiocas served at your table. The swimming pool is refreshing after a nice stroll in the city and the rooms are spacious. On the other hand, the shower takes some time to heat the water, my tv had only aired channels and the air conditioning was a bit noisy (but I didn’t care).
Bottom line, you should consider its location and all the amenities of this old but nice ex-four-star hotel. Maybe you’ll find it better than a good three-star five miles away.
Old (and bad) Hotel in fantastic Historic Center

The hotel has a good structure, good pool, but the rooms are poorly maintained, lacking basic maintenance. The restaurant is good, the dishes tasty, but my order took over 1 hour to get to the table. Otherwise the service is slow but good and the staff very attentive.
Great structure, best location

We love the location -close to the best part of the historical centre- huge rooms, balcony, relaxed and chic environment. Great quality for reasonable price. Staff is polite and helpful, everything was amazing, except from impolite french guests, but that's not to be blamed to the hotel.
