Very comfortable place minus 1 bad apple

This was an affordable place to stay with a bit of a luxurious feel to it. The beds are very comfortable. Had a good night sleep. This was more of an overnight stay so therefore we did not experience the pools or the restaurants the hotel has to offer because we were on a rush to be somewhere the next day. This review is mainly on staff friendliness, comfort, and convenience.
The very first impression when my brother and father checked in was very unfriendly service. This leaves us wondering why this young lady at the front desk was hired to be in customer service. It was very late, we were tired, and we don't need this type of negativity!! If I received this type of service I would have automatically gave this hotel 1 star and would have not thought twice of coming back. I could understand why some people in the past have given low ratings because of this one bad apple. I'm wondering if this was the same person who people complained about. However the rest of the staff were very friendly. A staff who opened the door for us said "hi!" A different lady at the front desk in the morning was very nice. We even received a nice welcoming greet from the proprietor of the place and he asked if there was any troubles during our stay. This has completely changed my perspective of the hotel.
Just to be fair, it can be a very warm welcoming place and has the potential to be better. I gave it 3 starts because overall the staff is friendly, we did not receive the password for WIFI from the front desk or receive any information/ads of the pools available at the hotel. Does not include a microwave or free breakfast (which is fine, there are plenty of places to eat like McDonalds across the street any Tim Hortons nearby that open 24 hours). Therefore this can also be an convenient place to stay.

The hotel is ok. People are nice. But the restaurant is pretty bad. A lot of things on the menu they don’t have. And the food is pretty bad. I had the chicken. So dry I couldn’t eat it.

Have stayed here before, and will again. Great place with great service at good rates. Located easy to get to right on the main route through town, with both a good onsite restaurant and other good choices nearby.

The property is an older property and this reflects on the size of the bathrooms. For me cleanliness is the MOST important part and friendly helpful staff. That’s what makes a hotel stand out. This BW was really great, older property, but staff that were amazing and friendly even a hand written welcome note. It’s the little things that count.
pool/sauna concerns during a pandemic

This is a beautiful and centrally located hotel. We were very happy with the room and our dinner in the onsite Casey's restaurant was excellent. Staff was also courteous and friendly.
That being said, we were not properly informed of the number of people allowed in the pool area when we made our time reservation, nor of the fact that there was not sufficient staff to ensure that masking and covid protocols are followed. The pool area also includes a sauna and hot tub and there are no restrictions for these areas, nor the change room, in terms of number of people allowed in at one time. The only limit is for the entire area, which we were told afterwards, meets the rules provided by the Algoma Health Unit.
However, the facility is not supervised to ensure that smaller sections, such as the change room, are not crowded, or to ensure that people are in fact wearing masks in the change area. We were told that once in the pool area, masks were not required, which is reasonable. People can socially distance on their own, but this is less possible in the change room, which was small for a 26 person limit. Also, the staff person was neither wearing a mask, nor had the plexiglass up. Needless to say, this all made us very uncomfortable and we made the front desk aware of the staff issue and our concerns. We would not have have made the reservation at t his hotel, if they had properly disclosed the situation.
