Stay Elsewhere

I wish I had looked at the reviews for this hotel on Yelp before we booked it. From the photos, it looks like it's in a great historic building and it's right in downtown Savannah, within walking distance of everything. We soon found that looks are deceiving. We arrived in town around 2 PM and pulled up to the valet parking area (since there is no on-site parking). The valet guy told us to check inside before he would take our car. So we went in to the front desk. The woman employee at the desk told us with no uncertainty that she would not check us or anyone in until 4 PM. There were no rooms available. None? Really? She didn't even offer for us to leave our bags with someone so we could valet our car and start our mini vacation. I've never been treated like that from any front desk staff in all the years I've been traveling. We left and found a parking garage up the street where we could leave our car overnight for less than the valet was offering. So there. The hotel lost out on our parking fee, and (sadly, not his fault) the valet guy lost out on a tip. We also looked into the possibility of canceling our hotel reservation at this Holiday Inn and going ANYWHERE else in the city. Unfortunately, we would have had to eat the one night's charge for cancellation, and we weren't about to do that. So we explored the downtown and took a trolley tour to pass the time until we could return for check-in. We came back around 5 or 6 PM and had to enter past the valet guy. He said "welcome back" and we felt guilty that he's now without a tip because we didn't valet our car there. Thankfully, the front desk woman's shift had ended (probably the real reason she didn't want to help us) and the most friendly man was there to check us in. He was incredibly friendly and informative. (Sorry, I forgot all of their names!) Then we kept running into the valet guy who always greeted us with a smile. We felt bad for him because how many people got turned away and he lost out on tips? We got up to our room, and it was just average. It was on the top floor and had a nice view of downtown Savannah and the Savannah bridge, though. What it also had later (which we discovered) was a direct view of the main thoroughfare below where cars would rev throughout the night. The sound carried up five floors so it sounded like they were right outside our window. Coupled with the loud clanging of the antiquated heat/AC unit and walls so thin I could hear the person next door coughing and watching TV, it wasn't a very peaceful night. Then there was the toilet seat. OMG. The toilet seat. The top layer was peeled away in the back and it looked filthy (see photo) like it was stained with feces. Why has this never been replaced? Surely housekeeping sees this each and every freakin' time they clean the bathroom, right? GROSS. We were grateful our stay was only one night. I would never recommend this hotel. And for $200? No thank you.

Wow! This sucked.

When we first arrived it started off bad, no one was at the front desk stood there and stood there. I had to go find the closest employee and that was a bartender!! He then found someone who could care less to check us and other guests standing there in at that point. I was informed we then had to buy breakfast, and pay for parking every night! Wow how greedy that really eats into you’re travel budget now. Also this location is not the safest, felt very unsafe after around 8 pm, people standing out in the parking lot scoping things out, looking for an easy target.

Not worth it

We stayed here January 2, 2023 using IHG reward points. Any other IHG hotel honors the points fully for the stay. This hotel charged almost $90 even though at check out the front desk said OK you used your rewards, you are good to go! (no receipt printed) The hotel is average at best so I don't understand the extra charges.

Room Issues

Reviewed 29 december, 2022

The hotel is ideally located in Savannah’s historic district. Fees do NOT include breakfast. Be aware there is $45 valet parking fee daily! The lobby is lovely. However the rooms are standard for Holiday Inn. We had several issues: the heating unit, the toilet, and the coffee maker. The coffee maker was broken. The toilet backed up and the heater made loads mechanical noises and emitted an ozone odor. We spoke to a representative at the desk in the afternoon; however, when we returned, none of the three issues were resolved. That evening the toilet over-flowed. Only then did a maintenance worker come and fix the toilet and swap the coffee maker.

Go Somewhere Else

We had relatively low expectations, and yet, they failed to meet them anyway! Breakfast, at $10.99 is awful "pre-fab" everything. Nothing fresh. Pastry like cardboard. Poor to zero communication among staff. Only provide two paper cups for coffee machine and wouldn't provide ANY cups for bathroom!!! Grudgingly provided more than 3 hangers. Confirmed late checkout at 12 noon but called at 11:00 and asked why we hadn't checked out, then got challenged about late checkout due to THEIR lack of coordination! Couldn't open black-out drape. Crummy towels. Only positive is location.
