Spacious and secluded

Reviewed 17 january, 2022

We stayed in a Junior suite which had an external balcony. It was lovely to be able to open the doors to get fresh air - a facility most hotels these days don't have. Although it was too cold to sit outside, it would have been a lovely spot on a sunny summer day. The room was spacious, chairs comfortable and the reception staff were very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Christmas Day was anything but special

Reviewed 4 january, 2022

When we arrived at the hotel for our Christmas lunch, we were given directions to the room. It was a good 10 minute walk! We passed bedrooms with dirty plates outside and got the impression that the hotel was a little unloved and in need of a refurb and a general clean. When we arrived at the reception room, there was one person serving drinks. She got our order wrong 3 times which is very hard to do when you are only offering orange juice and prosecco!! Some of the staff who were serving the appetizers were very unkempt and scruffy looking. I know it was Christmas day but they could at least have pretended that they were happy to be serving us. Even the head waiter looked like he had just rolled out of bed. The starter was very average but the main course was a big let down. The 3 sprouts that we each had were hard and crunchy. The half a parsnip was very sad looking and wasn't fresh at all. The turkey was processed and the gravy was like coloured water. Oh and the roast potatoes were an afterthought - not browned or cooked. The desert was no better either and I couldn't work out whether it was meant to be hot or cold. We were served half a cup of coffee with no milk or sugar. The quiz that was on the table went untouched and after coffee, people started to filter out and leave. The general consensus amongst all the guests was that it was a big let down. Very disappointing.

Beware - this is an event hotel

Reviewed 3 january, 2022

If you're looking for a good night's sleep, beware that although it does not say in its title this is a event hotel with party and wedding bookings. The noise carries to the bedrooms and is disturbing. Saying that the rooms and beds are a good size and perfectly adequate albeit rather dated, tired, dusty and you can hear conversations in the nextdoor rooms. The reception staff were helpful but we were surprised that our room was not cleaned and tidied at all in our four night stay and we had to ask for new soap and shower gel. We also had to ask for a new kettle as the one in the room was damaged and marked 'Failed' on a safety test.

Arrived looking forward to spending an overnight stay with welcome drinks, 2 course dining in the restaurant and breakfast only we didn't get that. On arrival I made clear we had a voucher and what it entitles and at no point wad we told of any changes to dining. After checking into our room, we went to the spa and the pool was freezing so we left to get ready for our evening meal. After making an effort to glam up, we was informed that the restaurant was closed, no apology,no explanation and that we would be seated in the Reception lobby in armchairs. The menu would be the small bar menu of sandwiches, pizza or salad. We wasn't the only ones dressed up looking very puzzled and a little bit miffed of so we asked a member of staff for the Manager and with that we were given a mobile number. After a round of drinks that we paid for as our welcome drink never arrived, we left the hotel to locate a restaurant. We tried to contact the manager but no answer so I left a text. I received a message stating it was the DM and asked how could they help. I politely explained the situation and recieved nothing back. We headed back to the hotel for drinks but no staff were around to serve so we went back to our room. We text the DM again to thank them for their lack of response that matched every bit of the service this evening...non existent. We drive 2 hours for what seems room only. Not the gift we were gifted for Christmas. Given the current difficult times we are facing, I could understand if we was 1. Contacted prior to arrival to inform us if there was staff shortages and that service would be affected or 2. Inform us on arrival This is really really poor and if any Manager aware of tonights situation has allowed staff to face this unsupported, they should hang their heads in shame.

New years eve Gala Dinner and Stay.

Reviewed 2 january, 2022

Without a doubt the worst Gala Dinner my party of 6 has ever been to. The rooms were drab and despite of warning reception of a water leek in the Bathrfom at about 1530, nothing happened until I had a Major go at reception at 1900 hours. The room for the Gala Dinner lacked decent decoration whilst the food was over cooked. and seriously short of vegetables whilst the Food was only served when someone was advised we had not been served. We are still waiting for the final course. There was a total lack of organisation. Reception stated they would advise sales and the General Manager and I have still not heard from anyone. I would say that the DJ did everything he could to save the evening being a total disaster.
