Ideal location, at a great price and within walking distance of Shrewsbury Town, the River Severn and the Quarry Garden.

We booked this Inn with some trepidation, having looked at some of the previous reviews. However it was convenient situated in Frankwell, just over the Welsh Bridge, within easy walking distance of Shrewsbury town and at a great price. Hence we were pleasantly surprised on arrival to be greeted by a very pleasant young lady who happily let us in to our room, number 4, upstairs within the pub itself, a little earlier, since it was already available. The room was motel style, and set up to be adequate and comfortable for the two nights we planned to stay. The bedding was clean and white, with two pillows each, the towels were nice, clean and thick too. The mattress was firm, hence we had a couple of great nights sleep. There was plenty of hot running water for dishes, showers and yes, even a bath. We had a fire door, easily opened, which led straighg down to the little car park, great for taking our baggage back down for our journey home. Tea, coffee, milk and sugar were all provided with a clean kettle which heated up very quickly. There's a great sun terrace and a lovely little beer garden, with pretty flowers etc aided by the parents of the owners who are volunteer gardeners. I understand that the Inn is family run, but we didn't get to meet the rest of the family as we were out and about around Shrewsbury most of each day. Maybe we'll get to meet them next time, as we will certainly use Ye Olde Bucks Head Inn on future occasions.

One Night Stay

Reviewed 12 december, 2021

Friendly staff, homely pub, awful rooms. We popped into the pub twice for a drink and found the staff to be friendly and up for a bit of fun. A good team. Saw a few people having food which they looked to be enjoying though we had booked food elsewhere so didn't try it ourselves. Our room sadly was in desperate need of not only redecoration but also desperately in need of cleaning. The shower was pitifully weak and the shower head wouldn't stay in position meaning I had to hold it.. Photos added are of a bathroom door that wouldn't close properly, a notice in the bathroom that not only had water stains but was so dirty it was sticky. A rollerblind that had no cord, was very stiff to turn by hand and was filthy and a picture of the light over the basin that was incredibly dirty. I would like to add that although old, the bed was comfortable and the linen crisp and clean.

Not All bad

Reviewed 19 november, 2021

So for £55.00 you cannot expect luxury, we were prepared for it to be old, and a bit tired, we were not however prepared for how unclean everything was, from the approach, where clearly the smoker congragate, to the passage way, stair well and corridors. The room smelt dirty, we got a member of staff to open the velux window, it must have been a long while closed, the casing was filthy, the blind moldy, our first mission was to go and purchase some air freshener, detol spray, and fly spray, we also got wet wipes and cleaned the surfaces, we never unpack our bags. The lady who made our breakfasts looked as though she had the worries of the world, we assumed she was the owner. To end on a possitive, it is a great location, the breakfast was hearty as advertised. And the parking is free, for a near town location this was great. A good deep clean, and a lick of paint, they could charge more.

Rooms Clean but worn out, The noise from the carpark fell like a rave !!

Reviewed 17 november, 2021

I was hoping I was not going to have to review this Place as i hate giving bad feed back, but I have left 2 messages for the owners or Manager to call me back and had no response so hear goes. Booked two rooms for one night on the Tuesday a week ago, Checked in by a pleasant young lady so no dramas there, one room up the stair in the main pub and the second out in the carpark behind the pub, Without going into detail the room was clean but very worn, Ive posted a photo to show you the reader and you can make up your own mind, as my Brother said it was very Bates Motel !!
