More about the hotel
Swimming party
Over the holiday break the hotel offered a 2 hour swimming package for 8 people and pizza/lemonade for $100. We had a blast and the pool area was very nice with a heated pool. The bathrooms for changing and showering were nice and clean, the whole hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. We haven’t stayed overnight yet, but would be interested as the facilities are all very nice.
Really unimpressed
We were checked in on Saturday afternoon by an unfriendly young lady who barely said a word to us beyond telling me to put my credit card in the card reader. She didn't even tell us our room number or point us which way to go. In fact, she watched us go down the wrong hallway as we tried to find the elevators - we came away feeling like she had been almost hostile. The room itself was nice, clean and very modern looking, but when we had trouble connecting with the hotel wifi (I'm a Bonvoy member), we couldn't get it to work. I wanted to call the front desk to ask for help and confirmation, but the in-room phone was dead. The next morning when we went to check out, there was no one at the front desk, but after a while, one of the catering employees did show up to help us. Also, although there was a sign saying masks were required inside, a lot of guests (who were also partying quite loudly) weren't wearing them. We probably won't come back.
Very nice staff
Room was nice, staff was extremely nice, pool was nice.... I'm subracting a star because (a) they need more staff. They have this poor young lady running back and forth between helping people with their food and coffee and trying to man the front desk; and (b) the staff needs more training. While said woman was busy, people from the back office tried to help us two different times, but they really didn't know how. Plus one of them came without a mask on. I think the hotel is very new, so hopefully they will get these issues resolved, everyone was *very* nice and tried to be helpful, but they need better training and support. PS FWIW, Sioux City is one of the most relentless depressing small cities I've ever been to, avoid a long stay here if you can.
Newer hotel
The hotel is new and in the downtown area. We expected the area to be busy and offer dining options, but downtown Sioux City is not that lively and does not offer many options. The front desk attendant seemed overworked. At 8:30 pm she told us that she has been working for 11 hours and the next morning we saw her again and she said that she left last night at 11:30 pm and arrived at 7:45 am the next day. She could use some help. Room is modern and large. Our room had two queen sized beds and a sofa bed. There is lots of room for luggage. The curtains have an automatic dimming mechanism, it is a very nice touch. There is an area by the front desk to buy snacks. A bottle of water is $3, laundry detergent $4. The prices seemed a bit high. There is one washer and one dryer. Each is $2. Each takes 30 minutes. Note that you cannot open the dryer’s door before the cycle is over. There is an indoor pool. No COVID restrictions. In the morning there is Starbucks coffee for sale by the front desk attendant (did I mention that she is overworked?). We ate dinner at Soho. The dessert, baked cookie with ice cream, was very good. There is free parking at a garage by the hotel. The garage is not attached to the hotel so you are exposed to the weather.
Hot Rooms
This is new hotel and the air conditioning is motion sensor during the night. Do not stay here until this is fixed if you want to be cool at night. I am checking out tomorrow and going to Marriott Bonvoy in South Sioux City, Nebraska. I cooked last night so avoid this hotel.
