Oa Oa Lodge

We stayed in one of the Oa Oa over water bungalows for three nights. We then went to a high-end resort and stayed on one of their overwater bungalow for 5 nights. The resort costs about 5x per night relative to Oa Oa lodge. Surprisingly Oa Oa lodge had better snorkeling (we even found an octopus under our deck) and its proximity to town means access to better food (yes, Viatape has better restaurants than the resort we stayed at) at lower costs than the resorts. Viatape also has grocery stores to buy food when going on excursions and souvenir shops. The draw back of Oa Oa is that its dated and does not have air conditioning. Neither of these were a problem for us as we were out all day going on adventures and the room is not too hot at night. Another thing to be aware of is that you can hear everything happening outside your bungalow and vice versa. No sound insulation. The scooters and traffic will wake you up if you try to sleep in. That being said, after spending time here at a luxury resort, I would definitely rather stay at Oa Oa because the value is just too good. While the resorts try to keep you on their property, Oa Oa owners encouraged us to go out and see the island. If you want to sun tan on a deck in ultimate luxury go to a resort, if you fill your Bora Bora days with excursions and adventures and want to experience true Bora Bora culture rather than resort culture then Oa Oa is the way to go. Also you get a nice sunset view and view of the town at Oa Oa.

Super hotel with beautiful view from the cover water accomodation at an affordable price. Staff very helpful and friendly and the walk into town is only 15 minutes or you can hire one of their bikes if you dont want to walk.We used the kitchen facilities (no hotplate in the overwater room). Worth taking a sharp knife if you want to eat fresh fruit in the morning. If you dont want to eat in your room go and check out the night food Van's by the ferry area. Delicious food and super cheap.

If you are looking for a cheap accommodation in bora bora this is it. I loved the pool, sea and garden. The little lodge are quite old and need some renovation. The restaurant was closed there. The transfert from the port was good. We loved the kindness of our host and the staff.

The good: Tom is wonderful and very helpful, and the view from the over-the-water lodge is lovely. The bad: The bed is as hard as plywood. The lodge is so porous, it’s no better than sleeping in a tent. You can hear everything on the street, on the water, the loudmouths on the nearby dock partying till 2am, and of course the roosters starting at 4am. There was a big lizard in my room. The bathroom is clean, but smells like sewer. The A/C doesn’t work. You can’t get any cash from the front desk, so bring your ATM card. The restaurant next door is shut down, so rent a car or prepare to walk for food. The breakfast I ordered only arrived on time the first morning, then 30 mins later, then an hour later - minor irritation. But worst of all, my last night there saw an infestation of flying ant-like bugs in the room - all over the floor & in the beds. They were so bad, I had to move my luggage and myself out to the deck and wait up 1/2 the night until they died off. I basically didn’t sleep for more than 2 hrs a night for the 4 nights I stayed on Bora Bora. It was cheap, so I should have known better. If you don’t mind camping, this place is a deal. Otherwise, I don’t recommend.
