Amazing location, friendly staff, super restaurant
We stayed three nights in this hotel, with golf package. Nice staff at the reception at both check-in and check-out. The room had a nice location, overlooking the sea. Somewhat worn, but clean. Bathroom very worn, should be renovated. Narrow shower, and strange location of the toilet, close to the wall and door. Still a nice room where you fall asleep to the sound of the waves towards the beach. The restaurant is recommended, we ate both in the beach bar and in the main restaurant. Highly recommended is the ravioli with ricotta, sautéed beef tail, roasted walnuts and stone mushroom sauce. Halibut and shellfish dish are also recommended. High international factor among the employees! Especially nice were our waiter, Dimitar and the bartender from London. We also tried the spa, small but nice, great view of the ocean from some of the lounge chairs. This is a hotel with a lot of interesting history, and with a great soul. We highly recommend the place.
Wonderful place, poor sleep
Wonderful scenic place on the beach, nice staff, nice room and delicious food. However, a noisy outdoors private party played loud music till into the wee hours so it was hard to sleep. I will find another hotel for my next weekend trip because getting a good night's sleep is important to me. This may be a quieter place for a mid-week stay.
Pensjonist
A wonderful weekend, perfectly arranged for family group of 17. Top score: food, service, atmosphere, the lot. Thank you, Sola Strand Hotel! I couldn’t be more pleased. The rooms were spacious, the view towards the beach spectacular. Very nice breakfast, wonderful spa treatment, and a dinner on Saturday night that we’ll remember for long time: menu and wines in perfect balance. The staff were on their toes at all times. Altogether: a hotel to be greatly recommended!
A big disappointment
I was really looking forward to staying at this historic hotel that I had heard so much about. I got a good deal since off-season but understand why. The first room I got was old and shabby, with the smallest bathroom possible which smelled of mildew, and old single beds (I had asked for twin beds) against the wall. I complained and they offered me a larger room with double bed. When I went to inspect the room it was also old and shabby, but the biggest issue was black mold on about half the grouting in the shower in the bathroom which smelled so bad. The final room I saw was in the new section of the hotel and this is where I spent one night. It was OK, but nothing more than that. The bed was not especially comfortable, and the one single pillow per person was thin and completely unacceptable. The towels were also small and worn. On the upside, the reception is beautifully kept, and the dining room is lovely. The breakfast was excellent, and much better than expected and compared to the standard of the rooms. I also had a quick trip to the spa, but again was disappointed. I had been informed there was a Jacuzzi, but there was only a corner of the pool with some jets. I didn’t get in as the water was too cold. Otherwise the spa seemed one of the nicer and freshest parts of the hotel, Pity the water was too cold to be used. I would recommend staying elsewhere and just visiting the hotel for its beautiful location on the beach, and perhaps have a meal. Based on the bad experience with the rooms, we didn’t dare to try the restaurant and dined elsewhere. However, since the breakfast was so good, and if the same kitchen supplies the à la cart, I would definitely give it a try if I ever return.
Belter!
Absolutely magnificent. Food was amazing, staff very attentive and the rooms very clean and well maintained. Views of the beach and the old WW2 battle ya impressive and my only regret was just the one night!
