Trip to Playa Del Carmen

The resort is beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly, overall. I loved that the pool was by the beach and I would go back and forth between the pool and the ocean. They have a great snack station by the ocean so you could essentially snack randomly and aren't confined to specific food times like the other restaurants & buffets. The entertainment at night was great too. While I didn't mind the walking, whenever there was a golf cart driver passing by without passengers, we were always offered a ride to somewhere on the resort. I loved this initiative. There were a couple of things I didn't care for. As a person who needs a coffee or black tea to wake up in the morning, I would have appreciated this option in the room. We had to get ready, dressed, then go to one of the buffets to get this. Another odd thing I noticed was that there was no hand soap (no bar, no gel, no nothing) in the bathroom. I had to call to ask for handsoap and received it. On the second day, we decided to switch rooms to be closer to the ocean. When I switched, there was no handsoap again and I had to call again. This is when I noticed a pattern. The other thing I noticed is while there were 4 of us we were paying for in 1 room, they would only stock the mini fridge for 2 people and not refill it daily as it says on the website. The last thing I would say is it's not very vegetarian friendly/easy. There were labels, but they were often labeled incorrectly in correspondence with the food. Often times, the beans would be cooked with lard or there was no separation of meat/seafood & vegetable items. The same cooking utensils were used to touch "vegetarian" along with the meat items. It would have been nice to have this separation so us vegetarians could have some sort of piece of mind. I will say this...there is a chef working there, Appolonio. He noticed my family & I were having a hard time eating and he personally walked us around - every time he worked - to show us what was truly vegetarian. I cannot tell you how much we appreciated him and his kindness. Yesenia at the front desk was patient & extremely helpful with anything we needed. Alex with the golf cart rides was always looking out for my 70+ year old parents comfort. The bartenders at every bar on the resort were kind, fast and awesome. We really enjoyed Iberostar.

Amazing resort. For starters everything is extremely clean the staff is extremely wonderful don’t have a single complaint the whole time I was there food was amazing the view when you first walk in was breathtaking there is so much greenery a beach a pool and countless number of activities to do without leaving the resort. I had a very wonderful time there and would absolutely go back any given second. I just like to reiterate how awesome the stuff is though they made me feel so welcome and I didn’t want to leave. For some reason I can’t upload pictures on here but if you’re curious to see what it look like check out my Instagram @anahit0204
Hotel was a little dated, had some issues with ants in the room and poor beds

We were really excited about this trip, we stayed at the Rose Hall Iberostar in Jamaica a few years ago, and loved everything about it. When my wife said lets go to Mexico, I wanted to do this chain again based on our great previous experience. Sadly we were let down.
To start the room, we had a serious ant problem when we checked in. tried calling the guest services form the room phone and kept getting a message in Spanish, not speaking Spanish and not hearing options for English was an issue. We walked from our room to to the lobby and after telling people we had a bug problem they sent housekeeping with a can of bug spray and gave us the can to take care of the issue our self. Seriously? Moving on, the bed was in poor condition, and probably hasn't been replaced since it was install in the 90s. Same with power outlets. There were a total of 2 accessible outlets in the room, a suite at that. Again no update from the 90s would be to blame. Last complaint was the "AC" lowest setting was 20 degrees C (about 68 F), which would have been great, if it ever got that low. In addition to an obviously insufficiently powered AC, it most likely hasn't been updated in at least a decade. To add to the problem, our door was warped and didn't seal around the top or bottom which let out the meager cooler air from inside out, and let the humidity which was miserable from outside in.
Staff, while friendly, the majority of the staff who directly interacted with customers could not speak even conversational English. not that I am expecting fluency, but when I ask for tea or a drink I should not need an interpreter. I realize I was in a foreign country, but it caters to a significant European/American clientele, the front desk and waitstaff should be able to communicate with the customers. The people who worked the pool area spoke good English and were able to interact with all customers, and the evening performers were talented. we enjoyed the shows we were able to view
Ala cart dining- we got 2 meals with our package. The steakhouse our waiter spoke no English, we had to point to the menu to order. the Bonsai restaurant didn't give you a choice, they had a pre-determined menu and everyone got the same thing to sample. Not even close to ala cart

We have been coming here for 7 years straight. We will never come here again. Ist the beach is a total mess with the seaweed 2nd they took the beach and pool service away so now you stand in line for your drinks and they don't come enough to pick up the dirty cups. The hotel is at 60% capacity you would think the service overall would be better I guess the administration is trying to save money on our behalf. DON'T waste your money here try Costa Rica.If you like the beach the Caribbean is ruined
