Bads and Goods
Having stayed multiple places we decided to try this place. I convinced people that LOVE this place have never been anywhere else. *ceiling fan rocks and rattles *beer only in bar on room *waiting for coffee every morning while waiters walk around *food portions extremely small *DO NOT upgrade rooms period. Not worth it. Swim up rooms are a joke. It's swim up and jump out. No steps like other places to get in and out. The swim up area is void of people. If you want to be part of the crowd don't book the swim up rooms. I tried to downgrade rooms to get closer to the main pool. . I first suggested to move us and give us a simple massage credit. Nope. *if you like to walk a big property this is the place for you. *dinner reservations are not allowed except for one place. It's a crap show. I don't want to sit and wait an hour for a table on vacation. I am sure there is a reason for this but damned if I know. *asked for olives in my drink at pool. Was told no we don't have them. Pool side waiter asked for olives and they magically appeared. *pool side bar tenders don't know water from club soda or tequila from vodka. Constantly wrong. *drinks are watered down 100% if you order from the poolside waiter I guarantee they are watered down. *collect a dozen loose pool tiles everyday while in the pool *they had a Ms Playa contest pool side that was entertaining to say the least. However if you are offended by half strippers poolside you might want to look away. Didn't offend me but I could see where it could others. *The speakers they use poolside are blown so when they play music all day it sounds painful. They had a week to fix it. *poolside hamburgers were good but they ran out of fries. You can dismiss the review as we are hard to please or rude to staff but its not the case. I see people be rude to staff and don't do it or like it. Hope your experience is different. The goods.. Well the French place is the best option Poolside tacos are good If you still try this place I wouldn't upgrade rooms. Not worth it. Ask for building 3,4, or 5 for most central and least walking. All in all go elsewhere as there are better options.
Second Visit to the Valentin
I came to the Valentin 9 years ago. We liked it then and wanted to go somewhere that we were familiar with. The staff here handled all COVID precautions beautifully. Never once did I feel unsafe. From hand sanitizers to the staff wearing face shields, and how well they sanitized common areas - I think they handled it great. The resort is starting to show its age a little. While still beautiful, the rooms are a little worn and in some of the common bathrooms, you can see a little wear and tear. Where it is most evident is the pool. The tile came off in my hand, the grout looked old and crumbly. The staff here are nothing short of fantastic. Attentive, caring, and sweet. I just really enjoyed the staff. They work incredibly hard. The food for dinner is great. Last time I was here I loved the French restaurant and it still holds up. The Mexican restaurant was awesome too. I didn't like the seafood restaurant the second time around either. The lunch and breakfast are certainly repetitive, but the lunch had more options. Between the buffet and ordering lunch a la carte and then the beach grill. There were more options. The beach was great and there was no shortage of Palapas. Because of COVID I believe there is a restriction on occupancy. The pool was a little more crowded but still not hard to find a spot to sit. I think this is a great resort if you are looking for a place that is a little more laid back. The staff are attentive and accomodating, the food is great, and the drinks are wonderful. Thank you Valentin for making my first vacation since COVID memorable.
Multiple times repeat offender
Just returned from a 4 night trip. Had a wonderful time as usual. We were scheduled for our covid test when we checked in and it was all handled quickly and easily from scheduling to testing and notifications. I read some of the negative reviews and would like to offer some helpful advice to people that were not happy with their drinks ect. They are not free pouring they are using shot measurements so if you want more ask. It's all inclusive they will do it. Restaurants were excellent but if you get something you don't like send it back. We usually order stuff not on the menu and if they can make it happen they do. Covid has slowed it down some but the staff jumps to accommodate whatever you need. We will be going back in a month and a half and are counting down the days. Helpful hint join the resort Facebook page you will have a feel for what you want and if you upgrade do not jump on the first offer. Act not interested and usually you get a way better deal. Great place. Check it out you wont be sorry.
Gorgeous Resort with Watered Down Drinks, Disappointing Food, and Tiny Non-Privileged Beach
I had been to this resort 5 or so years ago and remembered how gorgeous it was and how friendly the service is. That hasn't changed. What has changed, whether because of Covid-induced cost cutting or otherwise, is the quality of the food and drinks. The meals were just OK - meat quality seemed poor and the dinner restaurants below average compared to other resorts in the area. Buffet had less selection than last time, also. The Japanese restaurant Ginger had a cloying sweet sauce on everything. I traveled with a friend and we are 100% sure the drinks were watered down. That was disappointing because it was not that way on my last visit. The bartenders were super friendly and used generous pours, but there was almost NO alcohol in the drinks, even when we just ordered vodka sodas. Having the Covid Test onsite was super helpful, although the process for scheduling them was ridiculous. Instead of having you sign the one paper that is required to schedule the test, they make you go to the crowded concierge and wait in line (it seriously took me over 30 minutes, and there were only 4 people in front of me) with all the people making dinner reservations. Then, I signed a simple form and was told I had to come back again between 4-5pm (when we planned to be at the pool) to get our scheduled time. It's all so silly - it would have taken 2 seconds for us to sign the paper at check in and that would have saved us a lot of time in the concierge line. The Concierge in Building 3 was actually quite flippant about the fact that our test results likely wouldn't be ready in time so we ended up having to speak to the front desk to get squeezed in. The test results ended up being ready same day electronically and hard copy delivered to our room the next day. The pool was very fun and there were just barely enough chairs in the shade (at 40% capacity) - so, I'm guess it'll be a problem as things pick up. Same thing with the beach - about 85% of the beach is restricted for "privilege package" guests (mostly empty), so all the non-privilege guests are crammed into one area far from the bar or bathrooms. We ended up caving in and paying for a privilege bed at the beach. The rooms were lovely - we just had the most basic room and it was spacious and very comfortable. It was in building 5, which was a great central location. Many of the upgraded rooms are really far from the restaurants and/or the beach. I don't think I'd want those rooms even if they're nicer.
Amazing Service!!
We stayed at the Valentin in January and we couldn't have been more pleased. We have been to many AI Resorts, and this one ranked at the top. The staff at Valentin are exceptional and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and had all we needed. The food is outstanding and the servers were some of our favorites!! We stayed in a 1 bedroom Diamond Suite that was basically a small apartment with a huge balcony that wrapped around the entire room. Some staff worth mentioning are: Veronica - Our Concierge (Amazing service and always with a smile). Miguel at check in; Eduardo who drove us anywhere we needed to go; Carlos at L'Alsase and his excellent dessert recommendations; Gabriella at Ginger (our favorite waitress); Ivan, Lucas, and Mildre at Mar y Tierra; Victor and Omar from the beach bar; Xochi and Tony - Beach Concierge; and lastly Ruth from Le Marches who always remembered our names and room number and where we preferred to sit. Everyone worked so hard to make us feel at home. We highly recommend this resort and are looking forward to returning soon!!
