Walking inc Isle if Arran
I don’t do many reviews but I must with this hotel. I’d read some reviews before we went and seen a few negative and yes it’s a old country house but it’s full of character in the main building. Very clean rooms, basic but well equipped. The staff especially Robert were very kind and caring nothing was too much trouble. We stayed here primarily as a base so we could walk Goatfell and the Ayrshire coast and nothing disappointed. We had fabulous weather and a good few nights sleep 🙂. Thank you Hayley & Fern
A dump in the middle of nowhere
Staying here just now. Upgraded to an executive room, thinking we would treat ourselves. I would hate to see the standard rooms if this is the upgrade at double the price. Reception staff very cheery and friendly. Only good thing about the place so far. I imagine this place was grand away back in the 70’s / 80’s but now been allowed to be run into the ground. Gardens outside neglected and exterior of buildings very run down. We were shocked when we came into room. The furniture and carpets reminded me of my elderly grans bedroom back in the 80’s. Horrible bed, 2 random bedside cabinets shoved against a random wall, one facing into the other so it can’t be opened. Bathroom more modern, although shower gel dispenser missing from wall (can see the plaster marks where it should have been) and towel rail hanging off wall. Annoying fan that seems to stay on and make lots of noise. Upgrade to executive should have included toiletries, according to website, but none here. Reception say the only toiletries provided are the 4 tiny cakes of soap at the bathroom sink. We have spent last 2 hours chasing small flies around the room. The TV for the room is about 22”, absolutely tiny for such a large room. I am upset that such a big company (Britannia Hotels) allow these old hotels to crumble away and make money from using smelly old furniture that would be more at home in a skip. I am more upset at myself for being silly enough to pay double the price of standard for an upgrade that I wouldn’t even class as standard. They should be paying me to stay here. I have 2 nights left here, so hopefully things get better.

Out of necessity
Due to early flight from Prestwick we needed to stay over circa airport. A very friendly Robert offered us a great price including free parking - excellent! This poor old dame of a hotel is so in need of tlc. It's strength was the friendliness of the few staff we met. Another plus was that despite the room being basic, it was as clean as old fixtures can be. It was also cold. Good shower Frighteners were: overspilling ashtrays on entrance to reception staff forever outside smoking No bar open - no notification of this!! No restuaruant open - no food availabe!!! General sadness and 'soullessness' of the place - like an abandoned coastal art deco white elephant
