More about the hotel
Convenient Old hotel close to down town.
A former coaching inn dating from the 1800s, about a mile walk to train station or just take the bus. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, free parking, the lift is a little ancient! Breakfast tasty and filling. Nothing fancy, basic vintage hotel rooms with tea and coffeemaking equipment and TV, there is a notice encouraging you to buy rooms fixtures, and no accidently remove them! TIP: Be warned there are lots of stairs, but great views of the town from the top floor. Thanks for reading. Would appreciate a thumbs up below if you’ve found this helpful.
Independent, quaint, clean and comfy.
Appreciate the building for it's antiquity - the stairs creak, rooms have Narnia wardrobes, some have air con and some don't but it's got loads of character. The small lift is an addition if you need to use it - lifts weren't around 3-400 years ago. The beds were comfy and clean. 24 hour reception and friendly staff. It was a lovely comfortable stay and we would return.
Clean, well located and the staff are super friendly
I travel to Southampton regularly with work. Since lockdown ended I've been slowly working my way around the hotels in the City Centre; the Star Hotel is the 4th one I've tried and so far the best. Katie on reception couldn't have been more helpful when it came to finding somewhere secure indoors to store my bicycle for the night. The bar staff were so friendly that it made the few drinks I had there a delight. Plus the beer was very reasonably priced, quite a bit under £4 for a premium lager. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable. If there had to be a but, it would be the shower which was a bit weak. All in all for the price, The Star Hotel seems hard to beat.
Absolutely disgusting and left
We stayed here whilst visiting family. On checking in the receptionist was rushing us. Then explained we had to pay an extra £5 to park the car. The lift is out of faulty towers and is a service lift. The room was disgusting. There were stains all up the walls in the room. The toilet seat was wonky, the shower fan had fluff and mould growing in it. There was constant running water outside our window and the view, well you can see. When we returned from seeing family. They called us up to move our car which was already in a cramped car park, saying we'd used two spaces. It was one space. It's a very old hotel and just needs a good clean. Would highly not recommended staying here, so we left and drove the 6 hours home. Avoid at all costs.
Requires updating
We were booked into this hotel for 3 nights, it was during the warm weather, the hotel looks very outdated throughout with the exception of our room, this was a reasonable standard, the bed is a four poster but small double. We put both the fans that were put in the room this didn’t even cool the room down. I got up and went for a run at 4am it was cooler outside than in the sauna (room) as was not managing sleep. When I got back I booked another hotel for the rest of our stay. When we went down to breakfast I informed them that we would be booking out and the reasons why, they refunded the remaining two nights stay. Would I stay there again never.
